About the Course
A one day course on how to safely use & look after hand routers.
Have you bought a router, used it incorrectly, scared yourself and put in in the shed never to be used again? Or simply want to learn how to use a router safely and with confidence? Want to have a go before deciding to buy one? Then this course is for you.
The day will include an introduction to a router and it’s multiple uses, how to use a router correctly and safely, the different types of cutters and how to use them, maintenance, hand routing, table routing, how to use jigs and fences plus an introduction to the wood rat.
The course is run from a fully equipped workshop just outside Penrith, a stone’s throw from Ullswater. I am a Cabinet Maker and have been teaching cabinet making and box making for 10 years, so have plenty of experience in teaching at all levels. We have routers to use in the workshop or you can bring your own if you have one. The aim of the course is to give you the knowledge and confidence to use a router safely.
The courses are on set dates, but there is the possibility of other dates if none suit. Please get in touch if you would like to arrange a different date.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

Great course. A very interesting day that has given me greater confidence to use my router, and to understand not only its potential but also its limitations. We also learned the advantages and disadvantages of different types of routers and different techniques through demonstration and hands-on experience. An added bonus was some excellent tips on care of hand tools.

A very worthwhile course which was " hands on ". I started to understand just how versatile my router could become, and with Mark's guidance a completely new world was opening up. Thank you Mark.
Would I recommend this course to others - Yes.
Would I attend any further courses ? - Absolutely yes

I ended up having this course on a one to one basis which was excellent as I was able to go at exactly the right pace and take into account what I already knew. Mark helped me use and assess my own router and the bits I had been given. We covered and practised all the various techniques and he shared lots of useful tips, waiting for me to make copious notes for later reference. I highly recommend it.

I bought a router a couple of years ago, had quite a scary incident with it and it has been in my shed in its box ever since. I decided it was time to 'get back on the horse' and did a router course with Mark. It was excellent. He was flexible with dates and I was lucky to have one on one tuition. I came away feeling completely confident to use my router again, and have learned lots more about its capabilities. I would highly recommend this course.
