This is for anyone wanting to get started on a new project under guidance before continuing at home with confidence!
Claire is the owner of The Upcycled Trading Company in Folkestone and has run workshops for small groups of 4 or 5 up to larger groups of 13 on one occasion for a workplace mindfulness event. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic these have now been tailored to work for a maximum of two people per class.
Claire previously worked as an interior designer before specialising in upcycling and opening her business in 2018. You will learn techniques to achieve a professional finish and also trends in interiors to help you decide on a design to complement your personal style.
Many of us are now considering that upcycling an older or second hand piece of furniture to compliment our design scheme is a better option to buying new. Not only are older pieces often better made from quality materials and longer lasting but it's cost effective and saves good solid furniture from landfill.
You'll have the opportunity to get started the right way learning how to prep and apply like a professional furniture painter!
You only need bring yourself (dressed in old clothes that you don't mind getting paint on) and your project. This should be something small and easy to carry like a dining chair or side table but if you want to work on a larger piece you can bring a part of it such as a drawer or door and continue at home afterwards putting into action the tips you've picked up.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
Paint can be purchased to use on the day and continue with at home at a discounted price (up to a maximum of one full size pot per person) All other equipment is provided.
Due to covid-19 refreshments are no longer provided however please feel free to bring along your own and toilet facilities are available on site.
This craft course provider has been awarded Bronze status for receiving 1 or more 5 star ratings from previous students.

I had a wonderful day with Claire who is very patient and very likeable. We worked with chalk and mineral paint along with some wax techniques which I have since put to good use. I would highly recommend her class as I came away with the confidence to upscale my own projects. The class I attended was exactly as described and I thought it was really good value as "it does exactly what it says on the tin" Thank you Claire.
Response from The Upcycled Trading Company:Thank you Caroline, it was an absolutely pleasure and I loved the two tone distressed pieces you produced using the techniques from the workshop, Lovely work!
I brought along a mirror I had fallen out of love with. I learnt some great techniques and transformed it into something I now love again. Claire has given me the confidence to give other projects a go. It’s a great course & I definitely recommend it if you want to give upcycling a try but not quite sure how!
