About the Course

Enjoy two days of expert, hands-on, bread-making tuition on an all-inclusive weekend's stay at The Artisan Bakery School. The School is in a 300-year old cottage in the village of Sparkwell. It lies within easy reach of both Dartmoor and the stunning South Devon coast, making it also an ideal location for non-baking partners (who only pay £165).

This is a great opportunity to develop your artisan bread-making skills, or try your hand at pizza, Viennoiserie, wheat-free or even gluten-free baking. The tuition will be arranged around student's individual requirements, so even if you've never baked before, this is the perfect opportunity to try it at the pace that suits you.

Class sizes are limited to four residents, with possibly up to two extra students on one of the days. So there are never more than six students in the kitchen or the bakery, and you are guaranteed maximum individual attention.

Please enquire for mid-week mini-break dates.

Your hosts and tutors, Penny and Dragan, live at the School, and we are delighted to welcome new students into our home. We will make every effort to cater to special dietary requirements, and to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. We are passionate about heritage and organic flours, and organic food in general.

We have had all kinds of people on our weekend courses, from groups of four friends, to two couples who made friends, to individuals who made friends with us. It's a fun, relaxed, and highly productive way to spend a weekend.

Please don't hesitate to contact us for more information.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

I did the residential bread making course with my friend Hattie. We both had beautiful double rooms, all meals (proper delicious) included as well as the odd bottle of wine. It was just us. Wow it was great! A great break too, which is what I needed just as much. It's like going to the home of a friend's friend who really knows their stuff and has been persuaded to give you full on attention as a special favour. I don't know where else you can experience this.
Frankly, I hadn't a clue where to begin and now I'm done with shop bought. Got sent home with an e-copy of their books, a boot full of different breads and crackers, a new love of pizza, my own sourdough starter and a grin as wide as a french bread basket. And oh! the memories. Cannot recommend highly enough. Unique and more than worth it.

We had a fantastic weekend with Penny and Dragan - lots of fun, laughter, learning, great food and, of course, baking! I'm really excited to put what I've learnt into practice and for the first time feel really confident with sourdough and viennoiserie. For me being taught by actual people was so important - you just can't get the same feel for dough and breadmaking from books.

I took the course while my wife stayed as a B&B guest - their cottage is very comfortable. We felt very much at home over the two days and really enjoyed Penny's wonderful cooking.

Penny and Dragan are great teachers - they are knowledgeable, welcoming, patient and passionate, and I would highly recommend their courses to anyone who wants to take their baking to the next level.

I had a great time and learned a lot, mostly these "little" things which make all the difference when you are setting up your own bakery.
The accommodation is lovely and peaceful, just what you need when you have to work hard for two days!
Penny and Dragan are the best teachers going and have a real sense of humour which definitely helps.
And on top you will enjoy the most delicious dinners prepared by Penny with lots of attention to detail.
No need to go the local Michelin star pub.
Thanks to Penny and Dragan I am confident in making my loaves now and most important, my customers are very happy with the result.
Thank you, Penny and Dragan!

We'd like to say a huge thank you to Dragan and Penny for a wonderful weekend.

Spending an entire weekend immersed in bread baking with our two expert hosts filled our heads with baking knowledge. Dragan and Penny passed on a wealth of advice and tips based on their experience of baking over many years, from techniques and theory, to advice on how to fit bread baking into a busy life.

In addition to learning so much we also had a wonderful, relaxing stay in Devon. The cottage was beautiful, in an idyllic location, and all our meals were mouthwatering.

We can't speak highly enough of this course. If you want to kick start your bread making skills, this is the course you need.

Thank you Dragan and Penny!

I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in developing their bread making skills.
From the moment I arrived I was made welcome, and it wasn't long before we got baking...starting with delicious pizzas and baguettes and as the weekend progressed, we made lots of different artisan breads as well as making brioche and focaccia.
But the course offers so much more than a sack load of bread to take home. I learned many tips and techniques that have transformed my bread making. The course itself is very well paced and allows time to relax and enjoy the location and Penny and Dragan's wonderful hospitality.

I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend with Penny and Dragan at their lovely home in Devon. Both are more than hospitable, providing us with truly delicious food and warm and comfortable accommodation.
As a complete newcomer to bread making, I learned such a lot over the weekend.
We experimented with Heritage low gluten flours besides regular white and brown organic flours. I learned about sourdough and how to work with "The Mama" :-))
My family and friends, with whom I shared my bounty, were thrilled to pieces.
I can't recommend the Artisan Bakery School enough!
No matter what your need, both Penny and Dragan will tailor make a bespoke and memorable experience, which will be treasure for a long time.
Will be booking the Gluten Free programme soon.

We both really enjoyed our 2 day Artisan bread making course. Both Penny and Dragon were great teachers and great company as well, the accommodation was also very comfortable.

If your interested in learning how to bake loads of different breads I can't see how you wouldn't enjoy this course.
