Acrylics with Laura Donaldson

Laura Donaldson is a practising artist living in Melbourne, Derbyshire. After growing up just outside Uttoxeter, where the local landscape of Staffordshire cemented her love of the landscape, she moved to study fine art at Edinburgh, graduating in 1998.

Her studies in landscapes, weather and seasonal change are reflected with a strong emphasis on colour. She works with many medium but this class will concentrate on creating stunning landscape compositions in acrylics.

All our workshops have been developed to provide a quiet day of creativity and gentle tuition and with this class you can really relax with acrylics and may be surprised at how much intensity you can get with the range of colour and soft nature of this material. This workshop will suit a range of different abilities with beginners being very welcome.

During the day you will complete 1 detailed acrylic piece, exploring colour with this loose and speedy way of making work.

The morning session will concentrate on demonstrating each stage as you progress, and offer one-to-one guidance where appropriate. There will be a few useful hints and tips that will help you ‘flesh out’ the main features of your picture. The main subjects areas covered will be landscapes and woodlands.

After a break for lunch you will learn how to add finer detail to your work to complete your own masterpiece.

Feel free to bring your own images or use those that are provided. Throughout the day you will work on your project and learn how to build layers of colours to produce a striking final piece of art.

The course focus is always on fun and friendly creativity with lots of personal tuition from an experienced acrylics artist.
