1 Day Raku Course in West Cornwall
Description
Learn the exciting art of Raku firing, an ancient Japanese technique which means ‘enjoyment’. As seen and made popular on The Great Pottery Throwdown. This is an exclusive opportunity to spend the day with me in my large rural studio near Penzance, Cornwall. With over 30 years experience of Raku fired ceramics, I’m a Master Artisan as selected by the Michelangelo Homer Faber Guide. Learn the elements of Raku glazing and firing is this one day workshop. Pots are removed from the kiln whilst red hot and smoked in sawdust before being cleaned to reveal the gorgeous crackle glaze so typical of Raku. Bring your own small pots to glaze and fire. Depending on the sizes of your ceramics, you will be able to Raku fire a minimum of 3-6 pieces. A selection of extra bisque fired pots and bowls will be available to purchase on the day for £10 each. Please request these when booking. Pots and bowls should be made from a clay that is suitable for Raku firing and must be bisque fired in advance, preferably to a low bisque temperature of 950ºc. I offer a bisque firing service which needs to be booked at least a week in advance of the Raku day. The day is from 10.30am - 4.30pm and includes a light lunch, cake and a selection of teas and fresh coffee. This day is an inspiring and fun-filled day of creativity and community. By the end of the day you will have the knowledge and confidence to achieve great results with the Raku firing technique. Minimum of 3 and maximum of 8 participants.
