About the Course

The wonderful native Herdwick Sheep is the focus of this Lakeland needlefelted scene. Made using real Herdwick wool, the cute little sheep nestles happily amongst the local flora and fauna by the shore of Coniston Water.

On this one day workshop you will begin by learning the basic techniques of needle felting and move on to building up the base using core wool. The colourful elements of the grass and water will be added followed by creating the individual elements of tree stump, root base, tree fungi, rocks, marsh grass and finally the Herdwick sheep with its curly wool and cute hand sewn face! Finally all the elements will be felted together and attached to the base.

This scene will make a stunning display piece and looks spectacular when displayed under glass in a bell jar or taxidermy case.

Hanne Crank is a local artist specialising in 3D needle felt art. Originally, from Sheffield, Hanne moved to the South Lakes to concentrate on her art and live a more fulfilling life in this beautiful part of the world.

Hanne's needle felting journey began when she saw a tiny curled up fox at a friend’s house. After discovering this animal was made out of merino wool using a single needle she knew she had to learn more and has since taught herself the craft and become completely absorbed in the therapeutic process.

Hanne is still on her needle felting journey, as she continues to create new and original pieces. Always using the Lake District scenery and its local flora and fauna as inspiration, she finds the satisfaction of seeing a unique piece coming to life in her hands truly magical and forever intriguing.
