Ari reviewed: Introduction to green wood furniture making - two days

"I came to this course greener than the wood we were working with, and completely fell in love with this wonderful art form. It was a perfectly balanced weekend where Peter and his wonderful apprentice Toby, guided us through the process/techniques with wisdom and an inspiring depth of knowledge. There was room for play and experimentation too and I now have a charming stool (that I'm currently perching on), that will remind me of this happy weekend for a very long time. I cannot recommend this course enough!"

Peter Lanyon Furniture responded:

"Thanks Ari - total pleasure having you on the course!"

"An excellent two days that took us from logs to beautiful furniture. There was superb teaching with support and advice available at all times. I went as a complete novice and left with a real sense of achievement. It was amazing how relaxing it was working with traditional tools and crafting the wood. If you are even remotely interested I would go for it, you will be pleased you did."

Audrey Menezes reviewed: Introduction to green wood furniture making - two days

"What a wonderful course. Peter and his apprentice Toby are attentive, kind, and hugely knowledgable woodworkers who teach with passion and ease. I was completely new to the craft and now feel like I have a solid foundation and a budding love of working with wood, both ready to grow. I loved the thoughtful process of creating my stool, and the teaching and guidance they gave throughout the two days was invaluable. It takes place in Peter's lovely studio set amongst rolling green hills near the sea, and the days pass by so pleasantly with plenty of tea, quiet focus, and good conversation. I would give it 100 stars if I could."

Peter Lanyon Furniture responded:

"Aaaah. Thanks so much Audrey. A pleasure having you and your friends on the course. Come back and see us!"

jan piotrowski reviewed: Green wood creative seating course (6 Days)

"I can't recommend this course enough. Peter's enthusiasm and knowledge creates a fantastic atmosphere and the small groups sizes mean everyone can move at their own pace and complexity while still being fully supported. As a professional cabinet maker I came the course with significant woodworking experience but left with an abundance of new knowledge. Between Peter and his impressive apprentice Toby, there is always someone on hand with tips and advice. Add the beautiful surroundings and lovely people, it has all the ingredients for a fantastic week."

Thoroughly enjoyed all 6 days and came home with a stunning bench for our entrance hall. Would highly recommend this course to all abilities. You don't need to have any knowledge of wood working and you will be super pleased with the end result. Both Peter and Toby will guide you through the process from beginning to end. You wont be disappointed."

"As a complete novice to woodworking, I had no idea how I would do on this course. However, Peter and his apprentice Toby were brilliant in instructing the group and we all came away with really amazing pieces of furniture. I thought I'd really messed up at one point but Peter fixed the problem so you can barely tell anything went wrong, which I was so relieved about! I would fully recommend this course to everyone, brilliant few days working with my hands in the Devonshire sun :)"

Julia Brooker reviewed: Green wood chair making - 6 day woodworking course in Devon

"I had always wanted to make a chair- and after 6 days with Peter and his assistants and the other makers.. I came away with a beautiful chair I'm proud of. I got lots of friendly help- I'd never used a chisel before. We used mainly ash with cherry wood or oak details. Green wood ash has a lovely almost silvery sheen. This course is for everyone who wants to start with an axe and ivy clad log and ending up with a hand made and amazingly comfortable chair that will surely become a family heirloom! See my chair on Instagram atJuliaBrookerStudio- if you like wood you'll love it"

"What a week that was! An absolute delight working in my favourite material with like minded people. Peter is the most sensitive, patient and skilful tutor with a lovely sense of humour and a band of dedicated helpers including his lovely family. This is more than a craft workshop; it is a retreat, a meditation in wood and a joyous social experience with a lasting practical outcome."

"An absolutely brilliant day honing my sharpening skills under Peter's guidance. He's an excellent tutor - patient and knowledgeable, with time for even the most stupid questions. I took along some challenging and very knackered tools and came home with them transformed into razor sharp versions of themselves. Thanks Peter."

Russell Coy reviewed: Introduction to green wood furniture making - two days

"I have just attended this course, which was bought for me as a gift, and had a wonderful time, leaving with a lovely hand made side table that I am truly pleased with. The small group format meant that Peter was able to pass on his extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for greenwood working and design, through both group instruction and individual advice, stepping in to show correct technique where necessary, while leaving you free to work on your own design. I worked with a friendly and interesting group of people, who all left with fabulous and individual completed tables and chairs. The course is held in and around Peters lovely workshop barn, well stocked with tools and timber. Peter was ably assisted by ‘Row’, who also provided great help and advice. Thoroughly recommended."

Peter Hinchliffe reviewed: Green wood tables workshop at Lambside Farm - Week 1 (6 Days)

"I cannot recommend Peter Lanyon highly enough. The table course was the second of Peter's courses that we had attended and my wife and I decided to jump straight in and construct a new 8'6" dining table. I think Peter was only a little less daunted then us as this was the largest table so far attempted on the course! However thanks to Peter's utterly professional and patient leadership we were able to learn all we needed to produce the table and enjoy the experience to the full. Ash was used for the legs, rails etc and the top was from some oak planks discovered on the course visit to a sawmill on Dartmoor. Completed in time for Christmas, the table took pride of place at lunch when it accommodated 10 family members without complaint! I am a convert to green woodworking and have already booked my next session - innovative seating of course!"

Lorna Thomas reviewed: Green wood tables workshop at Lambside Farm - Week 1 (6 Days)

"I can't recommend this course enough. Having been on the stool making course three years ago I knew I wanted to make a larger piece and the table making course was appealing. Peter was very accommodating of my idea to make a console table rather than a more traditional table. He was always good humoured and patient, and managed me well to overcome my laissez-faire / quick and dirty approach. I am delighted with the end result which is now standing pride of place in my hall. It's not just about a piece of furniture I am proud to say I made, but the process of making it was really special. And the coastal walks nearby the workshop are pretty special too."
