I’m a mosaic and mixed media artist from Devon.
I have a degree in Creative Arts (1989) but self taught in mosaics and have been making them for 29 years. My first one was a 2 metre square mosaic on an outdoor school wall made with pupils from the school.
Since then I’ve worked with groups of adults and children making mosaics alongside my own practice.
I have work in private and public collections, and exhibit my work internationally.
"What a great day. With lots of help from Kate, I've ended up with a mosaic I'm really proud of. She helped us whenever we needed it & gave advice on size, colour, types of tiles, tools etc. My head is now buzzing on what to do next. Thank you so much Kate for such a great day of learning."
Kate Rattray Mosaic Artist responded:
" Thanks for your lovely review Linda, it was good to work with you."
"I spent the day on Kate’s one day mosaic workshop and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I have some experience but learned so much with lots of input from Kate when we needed it. She went through various techniques and provided electronic notes for us to refer to for future reference . She gave us the scope to be individually creative and was on hand with her wealth of experience if we got stuck.
She had a good selection of mosaic materials.
I would attend another one without question. Would highly recommend ?"
"I really enjoyed my day making mosaic. I learnt everything to do with the whole process and as I did a larger piece I needed to finish it at home.
We had lots of support and encouragement. We were actively encouraged to mix adhesive so we knew the correct consistency and allowed to take some powders and glass home to complete the piece. Emailed instructions and supplier information sent afterwards so no excuse not to complete my project.
Thank you Kate."
"Kate is a great tutor who gives a calm approach to her teaching, making you instantly feel relaxed. Her studio has a range of materials in a comfortable setting. Her diverse range of courses is suitable for beginners through to the more experienced mosaic artists offering new ideas and ways of working. I would not hesitate to recommend her workshops."
