Maker's bio

I have an established background in designing and making textiles, working primarily with wool. With a passion for colour, I work with machine knitted and felted wearables and soft furnishings, which I applique, embellish or stitch. I have become fascinated by hand felting for the freedom of colour mixing, mark making and sculptural possibilities it offers, which I find very exciting .

Funmi reviewed: A one day felt making course designing and making your own pair of cosy slippers. in the Forest of Dean

"A fun course, stretching the beauty from felt. I wondered how the bare felt would become a slipper at the onset and before my very eyes to my amazement things gradually took shape. A great day at a beautiful location, Christine was an amazing hostess and teacher all round. I look forward to my next course :-)"

Christine Waygood. Contemporary Textiles. responded:

" Thank you Funmi! I hope you had a good journey home and I'll see you again before too long. Chris"

Caroline Prosser-Lodge reviewed: A One-day Feltmaking Course to Make a Fabulous Felt Hat in the Beautiful Forest of Dean.

"I had a great time making my unique wet felted hat with Christine! The day was enjoyable throughout, very relaxed. Lunch included, a very sociable time. Amazing to see the felting process turn gradually little shreds of wool into a wearable garment. Many thanks to Christine and her husband."

Christine Waygood. Contemporary Textiles. responded:

" Thank you Caroline. I had a great time too. I hope you'll enjoy wearing your hat, and look forward to seeing you again when you need a pair of slippers . Do come over to see us when the studio is open in July."

Eileen Mary Saunders reviewed: Inspirational course covering wet felting and Nuno techniques in the beautiful Forest of Dean

"I had a fabulous day with Christine creating a 3D picture, with a background, with 3D wet felted flowers, needle felted onto it. I love Christine's understanding of colour and how she helped me create in felt the piece I had imagined in my mind. It was great fun carding to blend colours and also to add texture and the way Christine helped the piece evolve as we played and experimented as we went along."

Christine Waygood. Contemporary Textiles. responded:

" Thank you so much for your kind review. I really enjoyed working with you, and the challenge of trying to achieve the effect you wanted in the day. You created a lovely piece. I just wish we'd had twice as long to work on it! I've still got lots to do on mine- but as I said, I'll show you mine (when it's finish) if you'll show me yours! Maybe you can bring it along to my open studio in the summer?"
