Woven leather bag making

X

Description

Woven leather bag making - it is easier than it looks (and it looks fabulous let's face it!) The course instructs the student in the full process of making this style of Satchel bag (so called only because this bag is unlined and has raw edges). However this technique produces gorgeous results and you will walk away from this day with your own hand made shoulder bag complete with your own choice of fittings, colours and patterns (lots of choice available). Beginning with the pattern, the body and component parts are cut by press cutting. The links are then woven into the body. Straps and metal fitments added. You will learn pattern making awareness and consideration, machine and hand cutting, linking and weaving techniques, machine sewing (for webbing strap) and metal components attachment. Woven leather shoulder bag with detachable webbing adjustable and removable strap. Bag can also be used as a clutch. Styles available to choose from "Half moon" or " Camera case". Choice of colour in each style. White, black, tan, navy, chocolate - please indicate via the chat/message what your colour preferences would be when booking, however this is flexible if you would like to see the colours and textures first then that is fine! I have been a leather craftsman and maker for over 25 years. This course offers you an opportunity to make from scratch one of my woven bags from my summer collection selling in Greece. I am based in a tiny rural village of Thurning which is right on the cusp of the "Shoe-belt" of Northampshire, famous as a leatherwork and leather production county. We are just down the road from the factory featured in the film 'Kinky Boots' so for any leatherwork enthusiasts out there, this is your county! I teach in a London fashion college called The Marangoni Institute where my subject is leather-working techniques for accessories for the fashion degree students there. I also do part time bespoke event tuition at Northampton University.
