Description
In this workshop, you will be guided through the basics of bookbinding and the intricacies of stitching to produce a Coptic style notebook with wooden cover boards. ‘Coptic’ binding is the earliest known multi-section sewing method, originating in Egypt around 2nd century AD, and allows a book to be constructed entirely without adhesive. It is a binding method which makes a feature of the exposed spine stitching and allows the book to sit completely flat when open. During the workshop you will learn about: -Bookbinding hand tools and materials -The fundamentals of working with paper -Preparing paper sections and cover boards for sewing -Chain stitch binding -Efficient ways to work with needle and thread You will leave with the ability to continue making notebooks at home - a handy skill for craftspeople, artists, writers or anyone partial to note taking. Taught by Nick Fisher for the Nettlecombe Craft School
