About the Course
Immerse yourself in a day of creative work, learn valuable book repair skills and bring along some of your music cds to play while we work!
Learn how to repair antiquarian books using traditional conservation methods. You can rebind old books in leather or cloth. This is an opportunity to acquire the skills to transform your bookshelves and learn a few useful conservation techniques so you can take care of your most treasured books.
I work 6 days a week at the studio as a conservation bookbinder. I'm flexible about teaching days so you are welcome to email me to request a date to book your day of tuition for £100. I look forward to hearing from you.
I recommend bringing along a range of books. Victorian cloth back books or 18th century leather bound books are regular projects here but you are welcome to bring any book in any condition! Just email me a photo of the book you'd like to work on.
This is an opportunity to work alongside a professional bookbinder as I will teach and support you through your project but also share with you conservation work that I am currently busy with. I enjoy teaching and helping people to create unusual projects. I have been working as a professional restoration bookbinder for 12 years and I have a teaching qualification as well as a post graduate qualification in Museum studies.
The course is designed to be both accessible for beginners and engaging for intermediate abilities.
The range of projects I have worked on with previous students is diverse so please have a look at the portfolio on my website, it will give you a good idea of the the range of possibilities.
My studio is at the Welshmill Hub Building on Park Hill Drive Frome. Just a 10 minute walk by the river into town.
If you chose to visit Frome on the 1st Sunday of the month you will be in for a treat at lunchtime as there is a great market with plenty of street food stalls.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
A small charge for materials might be asked for on the day if you need leather and specialist papers (£10 approx).
I teach every week; Monday to Friday, Sundays are available if you can't attend on a week day.
I teach individuals at my workshop but I am happy to teach groups if you represent an organisation that would like to host a day of bookbinding.
