On the window frame day course we will build a nice traditional frame with basic hand tools and some machinery. We will begin the day by making the groove (where the glass and bead would sit )using the table saw. I will show the student a rebate grooving hand plane if time allows. With just a few hand tools we will mark out and cut the half-lap joints with a tenon saw then use a sharp chisel to clean up the joint. Only with attention to your marking lines will we get the result we need for a close fitting join. The frame is only 400mm x 400mm so it's easy for you to carry home. With these simple techniques you can build much bigger windows and also trust that the joints are strong and will last for many years. Please note there is NO GLASS used in this course!

My love of woodcraft was due to a meeting with a guitarist friend who had made an acoustic guitar. We talked about his guitar for many hours and I thought it would be a challenge for me to have a go! Well that was 6 years ago and now in 2023 I am in a small workshop in Stoke where I build various instruments. The Strumstick instrument build is a great way to get to grips with fine woodworking and is an ideal step towards acoustic guitar building. No experience in woodwork is needed.
