Window frame build (with hand tools only)
Description
On the window frame day course we will build a nice hardwood frame using traditional tools only. With just 3 or 4 hand tools we will mark out and cut the half-lap joints with a tenon saw then use a sharp chisel to clean up the join. We will then cut a small rabbet groove in the wood frame. Only with attention to your marking lines will we get the result we need for a nice join. The frame is only 30 cm x 30 cm so it's easy for you to carry home. At the end of the day we will finish the work using Danish oil or shellac. With these simple techniques you can build much bigger windows and also trust that the joints are strong and will last for many years.

Maker
My love of woodcraft was due to a meeting with a guitarist friend who had made an acoustic guitar. We talked about his guitar for many hours and I thought it would be a challenge for me to have a go! Well that was 6 years ago and now in 2021 I am in a small workshop in Stoke where I build various instruments. The Strumstick instrument build is a great way to get to grips with fine woodworking and is an ideal step towards acoustic guitar building. No experience in woodwork is needed.
