Description

I’m pleased to share with you my first 2 day willow sculpture workshop. I first trialed this fox sculpture a number years ago as a one day workshop but I wasn’t happy with the results. The workshop felt rushed and there wasn’t time for students to work things out on their own without lots of tweaking from me. As anyone who has been on a workshop with me will tell you weaving is a slow process, mediative and calming, over one day this was not calming! It takes me a day to make one of these beauties and it’s a really enjoyable experience, foxes have such a great shape for weaving with willow. So I’ve bitten the bullet and decided to run a 2 day sculpture workshop. I run plenty of 2 day basket workshops, never a sculpture, until now that is: ) This beautiful, iconic British woodland fox sculpture will teach you everything you need to know to make many more sculptures if you so wish and over 2 days you’ll learn lots of sculpture techniques, create something that is truly yours and something to be proud of. Using the finest English Willows you will learn sculpture techniques that I have been fine tuning for over a decade. These fine foxes look fabulous in the garden and treated with wood preservative will last many years. Learn to weave. Suitable for beginners and those with some weaving experience a lovely way to spend a couple of days. Come alone and meet other crafty folk or come with a friend or two for a special time together. The Willows tea and coffee house on the ground floor of the building will keep you topped up during the day with the finest rainforest alliance coffees and teas, locally made cakes and simple savouries of you desire.

Maker

Hi my name is Joe Gregory, I'm a full time willow basket maker and sculptor based in Todmorden, Yorkshire. I've been weaving for approximtely 18 years, initially self taught after a long illness and now a long standing member of the Basketmakers Association. I have been teaching weaving with willow for a long time and I'm proud to say about a third of my students return for a number of courses with me to develop their skills. I have developed a series of popular & achievable half day, full day and 2 day weaving workshops in sculpture and basketry. These can be done as stand alone courses or added together over time to develop skills and confidence. I teach students from across the UK and internationally from my large Georgian workshop in the centre of town just 2 minutes walk from the train station. I teach regularly for the Royal Horticultural Society, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, for a number of smaller organisations around the UK and I occasionally teach internationally.
