About the Course
This workshop is designed for beginners, who wish to learn about the basic techniques of wet felting and how to lay out a picture. You will also learn about exciting alternative fibres and have the opportunity to use some of these and see the results in your own picture. The last part of the day will be a demonstration of how to work back into your picture once dry using a felt needle and free motion machine work.
Hellen Edwards completed a Textile Degree at Chelsea School of Art, London. With a passion for felting and stitching, Hellen experiments with different fibres, colours and textures, in which she exposes unique images of mostly landscape surroundings with painterly 3D quality. Making good some of her industrial surroundings on Teesside by turning such scenes as the steel works, bridges and East coast piers and beaches, and not forgetting traditional floral into desired fibre paintings.
She has exhibited in several galleries including The Biscuit Factory, Number Four Gallery, Palace Arts Ripley Castle & Harlow Carr Garden to name a few, and was the 2017 recipient of the Carolyn Rawlinson Memorial stall at Woolfest.

Had such a good day, Hellen is an excellent teacher. She showed us the processes involved in wet felting and helped us to create our own masterpieces. There is no pressure only encouragement, we all went home inspired.

Response from Hellen Edwards Textile Artist:Thank you for the lovely comments Joanna, you all make it a pleasure. X
I had a great day learning wetfelting techniques and incorporating a range of different fibres to add depth and texture. Hellen laid on a lovely lunch and was kind enough to demonstrate embroidery techniques on her machine. Her workshop is very well stocked and a pleasant place to work and chat with new friends. Thank you for a lovely day!

Delighted to learn the beginnings of a new skill from such an experienced artist. Hellen welcomed everyone and made us all feel comfortable throughout the day. A wonderful way to spend time with a piece of work to bring home and work on at our own pace. Thanks to Hellen and all the other participants for making this a thoroughly enjoyable day.

I really, really enjoyed this workshop. Hellen was an excellent tutor, very supportive and explained everything clearly so even a complete beginner such as myself could bring home something to be proud of. The selection of materials is second to none and I would definitely recommend this. Thank you.

I completed this fantastic workshop yesterday, with Hellen Edwards, who is inspiring and very skilled in this craft! The course was organised, well resourced and clearly presented. The lunch and refreshments were the best standard on any course/workshop I have been on! I even bought sone of her felt art work! Would highly recommend for beginners or those wishing to extend their basic skills.

Helen Edwards course is amazing. I intended to go for just a short course and I have ended up continuing to go weekly. It's a really supportive, friendly environment and I learn new skills ever week and my confidence increases equally.
It's both social, stress busting and surprising in equal measure. A real weekly treat!!
