This jewellery making workshop in York is tailor made to suit your needs. Emmas' workshops provide a comprehensive introduction to the traditional methods of jewellery making, including tools, techniques and tips. Suitable for all abilities. Whether you're an absolute beginner looking to experiment and gain a taste of the craft or someone looking to develop your current skill set Emma would love to work with you. Emma has been a professional goldsmith for 14 years and is passionate about sharing her skills from her fully equipped professional Workshop located in Holtby York. This is a hands on learning experience through demonstration and practice. No written material is supplied. You'll work in Sterling Silver or Gold. Palladium and Platinum by request and you can practice using copper if required. Techniques you can learn include the basics of soldering, texturing, forming, wire work and saw piercing. For more intermediate learners you can experience casting (delft method) Advanced soldering skills, Stone setting (flush setting bezel setting, prong setting) Repair work skills and practice or Smelting. (Melting down old jewellery to create something new) The tuition cost is £30.00 per hour. I request a minimum booking of 4 hours to run a class which can be extended to as many hours as you'd like to do. Current availability. I take booking by arrangement to suit you. What's included in the price?
All tools & consumable materials are provided. As much tea & coffee as you need, you just need to bring your enthusiasm (and your glasses if you need them). The metal and gemstones for your project are not included and can be purchased at the studio which is usually between £20 and £100 depending on your project. For covid safety Hand gel, face coverings and visors are available for your use. I’m asking all visitors to wash their hands on entering and leaving the workshop for the consideration of each other. What to Bring & Wear: Please wear sturdy comfortable shoes with closed-toes and bring hair ties/pins for use when soldering and polishing along with a face covering. You may also wish to bring an old apron or work top and your prescription glasses if you use them for close up work. Feel free to bring your own sketch books. There aren't any shops or cafes in Holtby village. Please bring a packed lunch, the nearest place to go if you'd like to have lunch elsewhere is Dunnington which is a 5 minute drive away.
