Tutored Life Drawing Weekend: Structure and Anatomy, taught by Jake Spicer

This Course takes place on the weekend of Saturday 11th March 2023 to Sunday 12th March 2023 This comprehensive weekend of figure drawing will introduce you to the fundamental shapes that make up the human body. It is suitable for all abilities, although some life drawing experience is recommended to get the most out of the weekend. The course is based on the ‘Construction’ chapter of Jake’s book ‘Figure Drawing’ and complements the two additional life drawing courses that Jake will be running at Draw over the year - you don’t need to have attended those other classes to come along.

What's included in the price?

Day 1 On day one we’ll explore the key structures of the figure, learning to map the landmarks of the body in order to provide a supportive scaffolding for our observations. The weekend will take a practical, observed approach to the anatomy of the figure, introducing a few keys elements of skeletal-muscular anatomy as we encounter it’s expression on the surface of the body. Day 2 On day two we’ll look at the trickier elements of the body – the head, hands and feet, taking a similar approach to the previous days to these important areas of detail. The day will also include plenty of time for putting the ideas we’ve explored into practice, with time for 1-2-1 feedback from Jake towards the afternoon. How will it work? The session will start at 10am and you are welcome to arrive from 9:45am. When you arrive at New England House you’ll need to come to the main doors next to the Building Managers Office on Level 3 and call the number in your booking email to be admitted. Once you’re at the session you’ll need to show a digital or printed receipt as proof of booking, and a negative LFT, then you’re ready to go - you can’t attend the session with a cold, flu or covid so if you’re not feeling well, just get in touch for a refund or take a look at our online alternatives. All materials and equipment will be provided, so you just need to bring yourself and plenty of energy! We’ll be working from an unclothed life model all weekend we will take a lunch break halfway through the day – you are welcome to bring a packed lunch, or to pop to the nearby Sainsbury’s, or a café on London road. Safety information When our staff get sick, they lose work outside of Draw. To protect them and everybody who comes drawing from getting ill we have: - Monitored ventilation - Air purification with HEPA filters - Free masks & hand sanitiser - Full sick pay for our freelance staff - A strict no-attendance-if-ill policy Accessibility If you have any accessibility needs, please do let us know - we’re keen to do everything we can to make sure you can enjoy the life classes here.
