This summer creative retreat is for artists who are looking for less structure in their learning and more time for personal development in a relaxed studio environment.
It provides the perfect opportunity to explore your approach to paint and painting in an independent way, with guidance from a professional artist/tutor.
During your three-weeks with us you’ll work with the medium of your choice, following a series of set projects to begin with, honing your creative and technical skills before planning your own painting projects with support from your tutor.
Whilst you work on your paintings there’ll be regular pauses for optional short technical exercises and demonstrations.
There will also be sessions where the group will come together to share ideas and critique the progress of your work in a supportive way.
Whether you’re interested in abstract, landscape or life study (a model will be provided), you’ll find yourself immersed in the art school experience with plenty of time to reflect on your approach and improve your research, idea generation and planning processes.
On this course you will:
- attend short lectures and group discussions about planning your painting
- explore your creative and technical skills through individual and group exercises
- work in the painting studio as well as sketch and find inspiration in the surrounding environments
- explore both urban and natural landscapes as sources of inspiration
- have bespoke tours of local galleries and exhibitions
- be encouraged to try new techniques and mediums
- have time with your tutor to discuss your personal creative goals and aspirations
- become part of a summer painting community who wish to share ideas and support one another.
The course will end with a small exhibition where you’ll be welcome to invite friends and family.
What will you gain?
By the end of the course you’ll have a series of sketches, paintings in development and completed works, and the skills and knowledge to develop your work further.
In addition to your studio time, there will also be evening tours and optional activities that we will encourage you and your group to attend, to make the most of your experience (details to be announced).
