Country wine making course - basic level

Take home your own wine, ready to drink in just a couple of weeks


Aimed at the beginner, this is a practical course, introducing you to the basics of winemaking; you will learn in a small group how to make Country Wines. Taking home a demijohn (1 gallon) of your own Wine to share with friends and family, you will also keep all the equipment needed to continue this traditional craft at home.

A Mead Making course is also held in the evening.

Course Programme:
1. Introduction To Wine
Find out all about traditional country wines, and the different types you can make.

2. Preparation And Practical Session
A fun, practical session making your own wine from a basic wine kit, preparing you for your own home winemaking; gain an introduction to the ingredients needed, how to make and how to calculate the alcohol content.

3. Preparation For Bottling
A demonstration on how to transfer the wine from the primary vessel into bottles once fermentation has completed (you will need to do this step at home).

Choose your wine
Choose from a selection of Country Wines: Elderflower, Apricot, Peach, Elderberry, Bilberry, Cherry or Strawberry (or choose from Classic Wines: Medium Dry White, Medium Sweet White, Medium Dry Red or Rose).

Course Tutor: Steve Gibson
Steve has been brewing country wines since 2005 and continued with the craft ever since. The hobby has grown, and Steve now keeps his own bees to harvest honey for Mead (Honey Wine) and gives talks and demonstrations to local groups and enthusiasts.

What To Expect:
An informal evening learning the joys of brewing your own Country Wine.

Try a sample of freshly brewed wine and take home a demijohn (approx 5 bottles) of your own country wine to share with friends and family. You will also get to keep all the equipment needed to continue this hobby at home.

Please note some wine ingredients may not be suitable for vegetarians/vegans, please contact us if full ingredients are required.

Refreshments will be provided. Parking is available at the entrance to our farm and our training room is just a short walk down our track.

Upon booking please state your first and second preference of wine (see course programme for choices)

What To Bring:
Just bring yourself, confirmation of your booking, a notebook and any questions you may have.
Please arrive at 6.45pm for a prompt 7pm start.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 8 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
