Our Leather Craft Workshop Days are designed to be all about you…. getting hands on and making your very own hand stitched leather goods.
On our Small Leather goods Workshop you can choose to make either a:
Card holder, Belt, Clutch Bag or iPad (tablet) sleeve or a shoulder pouch from a choice of premium grade leathers and thread colours.
As with all our Workshops, you’ll be the ‘maker’ cutting and saddle stitching your very own leather item to take home and enjoy for years to come.
Having worked in the industry for over ten years..... Our workshops are brand new to London and started in November 2017. All are geared for people with some or no experience of working with leather. You will learn saddle stitching vegetable (& chrome) tanned leathers of various thicknesses depending on the item you choose to make.
The Workshop will run when booked, so may have either 1 person, or up to a maximum of 3 people depending on the number of bookers per workshop.
Don’t worry at all if you’re unfamiliar with any of the above as you’ll be given demos of each stage and you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how quickly you’ll pick it up.
We’ll discuss the different types of leather tanning processes and you’ll be encouraged to practice cutting etc on off-cuts of leather to build your confidence and you’ll also receive an info pack on where to buy Leathers, Tools and Hardware if you wished to take your new skills forward later at your own pace.
No previous leather working experience is required as you’ll be fully guided throughout your workshop where you’ll be cutting, marking out and chisel punching your stitching holes, waxing threads, burnishing edges and finally saddle stitching.
For the Belt making you’ll have a choice of buckles and you’ll also have the choice in using the strap cutter to cut your belt from the hide, and strap end punches to finish off your very own leather Belt.
The most popular width belt made is a 1.5 inch width, perfect for jeans or casual wear. If you would like to make a different size width just let us know when booking and we’ll ensure we have the correct size buckles.
If you can’t see a date you can attend, at some times during the year we have some flexibility in the booking calendar so just email us with your dates and we’ll see if it’s possible to arrange for you.
You can book your Small Leather Goods workshop day on our website.
There is nothing better than the feeling of making your very own leather goods that you’ll love to use and last you for decades, ageing uniquely over the years.
We look forward to seeing you on the day and if you can arrive 5 minutes prior to your course start time, that’d be perfect.
Parking is free in our road and surrounding roads. The nearest public transport is Hanwell Railway Station (8 minutes walk) and 12 minutes ride from Paddington Station. Or nearest tube is Boston Manor or Ealing Broadway Stations.

This class was a great introduction to working with leather. Richard was a fabulous, knowledgeable instructor who shared with us how leather is made and the types of leather suitable for different projects. Great workspace to work in and Richard took you through each step, making practice cuts on pieces of leather before working on your piece. Explaining the tools used along the way. Very enjoyable afternoon and a great course.
This was a really well structured course - there was a great deal packed into the 4 hours without it seeming at all rushed. Apart from learning about leather types and the tanning process, there was plenty of time for making and experimenting. The materials and tools provided were plentiful and first class. The information pack provided gives loads of details on where to buy tools and materials, and there is a strong encouragement to take away the skills learned and use them in future projects.
The workshop was brilliant - we got a great introduction to working with leather, the different types and what you might want to choose depending on what project your doing, as well as lots of advice for where to go to buy your own and what tools to get to continue using the skills you learn as part of the course. Richard was very patient and knowledgable and he let each of us get on with our belts at our own pace. I got to design mine exactly how I wanted it and was so pleased with the beautiful belt I got to make! I'm hoping to book the bag making course next.
I received a birthday voucher for this course and my husband decided to join me. I had decided to make a clutch bag and my husband a belt. Richard is a great tutor; very knowledgeable, helpful and encouraging. The day started with Richard imparting his knowledge of leather tanning history and various leathers and finishes which was extremely interesting. We then decided on our choice of leather, thread and hardware and had great fun learning to use the different tools, measuring, cutting, stitching with Richard giving advice along the way. The day was very enjoyable and my husband is happy with his belt and I am over-the-moon with my gorgeous red croc clutch bag. Thank you Richard for making such a great day and I would highly recommend.
The experience was amazing! I cannot describe how happy I was when I finishing making the belt for my boyfriend. Richard was absolutely brilliant and patient. I was the only one that day for the workshop, so I got an absolute 1-to-1 learning experience from him. Next weekend my boyfriend and I will celebrate our one-year anniversary, I can't wait to see his face when he sees the belt. Thank you very much, I will come back for more leather workshops :-)
I was delighted to receive this course as a birthday gift.
On arrival I was greeted by Richard who was to tutor us for the day, and was offered a drink.
We was taken through to his work shop which is clean and well set out.
Richard then gave us an introduction to the different kinds of leather and tanning methods.
As the day was to be about making a leather belt we were offered to choose our leather and buckle which we then got to work on.
As with all the tools used, Richard clearly explained and demonstrated their worth.
We then proceeded to cut our own length from the hide of choice with the strap cutting tool.
From that moment the time just seemed to fly by and before I knew it I had completed my first belt which I am wearing today.
Richard was a first class tutor, very patient and passionate about his craft.
Apart from learning something new you get to keep a quality item you have hand made.
I am now buying tools to try and create some more items and who knows might even earn at it.
Richard not only made the day pleasurable but was very keen to promote the craft by sharing his contacts, suppliers and the offer to contact him for any help or advice .
I would very highly recommend this course to anyone who has an interest in working with leather.
Thanks again Richard for a great day.
What a great day! I travelled down from Leicester for it and it was worth the effort. Richard made myself and fellow student feel incredibly welcome and is a great tutor. Each step was well explained, workshop spot on and the final result is a belt that I am going to use everyday. Thank you Richard for your time.
I bought this for two of us to do as a present for my partner’s birthday and he thought it was a great idea! We both really enjoyed the day and feel like we could get into leatherwork from this experience. Really great to have a belt handmade at the end of the workshop. We’ll definitely do another course with Richard, he’s a great teacher and lovely to chat with.
Would recommend this course to any one interest in trying out leatherwork! Thanks Richard, look forward to seeing you again. Rachel & Lenny
The workshop was excellent, Richard has a wealth of knowledge and I learnt a lot from him throughout the 4 hours we were in his workshop. The materials and tools available were great and I was proud of what I produced bu the end.
I’ll definitly be visiting Richard again to do one of his other workshops!
A superb course! Richard was very welcoming and hospitable, with an incredible knowledge of his craft. The workshop was well paced to suit all levels and abilities, and nothing was too much trouble for Richard. The atmosphere was relaxed and the time flew by. I'm delighted with my belt and already it gets regular if not daily use. I can thoroughly recommend the course and will be back to do another very soon!
Both my Son and I were made very welcome by Richard on our belt making course. Richard is very knowledgeable and relaxed in how the information and skills are conveyed. Richard is clearly passionate about his leather skills and is more than willing to pass all of this information during the course.
This was truly inspirational and has opened our eye to the world of leather skills and expanding on this in the future.
I would highly recommended this course to anyone who has an interest, in hand crafted leather.
I had such a great day at the belt making workshop! Richard is a wonderful, patient teacher, and really knows how to work with each student at their individual paces. The size of the classes is also really perfect to come out of the class with the confidence that you can continue to experiment and work on your own.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this class to anyone who is keen to learn! Thanks again Richard!
This was an excellent experience. Richard's relaxed approach to teaching made the day seem like a friendly chat with someone who loves what he does and is full of knowledge which he is very good at sharing without becoming a bore. The time sped by, the class was inspirational and I love my belt. Can't recommend this course enough. Sue
I’ve really enjoyed my time making a leather belt as a gift for my boyfriend at Richard’s worshop. Richard was very welcoming and patient. He gave us interesting facts behind leather while showing us some great samples of vegetable tanned leathers. It was very relaxing workshop as it was only a group of three. I didn’t fall behind with making, as Richard was very helpful to every one of us. Also he happily answered any questions that we had.
Well recommended if you are interested in making leather items!
Great course by a passionate guy.
Richard gives a lots of tips and informations if you want to enter the hobby on top of guiding you through the process of making your belt.
If you want to make your own leather belt it's definitely a great place to go.
A excellent day, much more than I expected I was never disappointed as a beginner to the industry Richard was very knowledgeable and patient which made the students comfortable and a in relaxing atmosphere it was easy to the complete the task. I would recommend to anyone to attend his courses whether a beginner or to advance your knowledge.
A Big Thank You Richard for the day.
I appreciated the day and what you taught me about the leather industry.
Richard was a really good teacher, patient and enthusiastic. Me and the other student were able to make some professional looking belts in no time! He also took the time to answer all our questions about leatherwork and I learned so much. Richard has a lovely workspace where it is a pleasure to work. I recommend this course wholeheartedly!
Richard is a very patient teacher and is flexible about what you want to make, and even though I went over the allotted time, Richard didn't rush me or the other person making the belt.
Even though I know a bit about leather craft, I learned lots of things about suppliers and different leathers which was great.
I am hoping to go on another course too at some point soon!
I had a great time learning from Richard and came away with a leather belt that I love. I had no previous experience with leather making and do not consider myself to be very creative, but Richard guided me through the process and taught me a lot about leather and belt making. I thoroughly enjoyed the course, would definitely do it again and I would recommend for any skill level.
Learnt a lot today from Richard, the workshop was really well set up and he explained all the basics for making a belt. Really easy to understand instructions and I think it will be a great family event or an opportunity to hand make a gift for a loved one.
You can tell you are learning from someone with real passion for the subject matter.
I received this workshop day as a Christmas present. I found it very interesting to find out how to work, cut, stitch and finish the leather. As well as finishing up with a belt of my own, it was really nice to meet Richard who teaches the course, he has a clear passion for the craft and is very good at explaining the processes involved.
Over all I would highly recommend this class.
Excellent Course run by Richard, who REALLY knows his stuff and takes his time to share his knowledge and techniques with you. This is THE BEST course i have done and it has really lit a fire to learn more. I wouldnt hesitate in recommending this course. I love the card holder i made. Many Thanks Richard!
I actually did the Small Leather Item course where you make a card wallet (there isn't a place to review that one yet so I am reviewing it here). Richard was great, a really down to earth guy who starts the experience with a lesson on the variety of tanning methods and cuts of leather over a cup of tea. After that we moved onto making the item. Throughout he would explain how the tools work, what they are for and he gets you to be very hands on. It was excellent.
I was able to select my prefered leather, thread, debosing stamps (initials & logo) and he then guided me through the processes of making the item. I made a card holder that is now my daily travel card wallet. I'm very pleased with the results. I did all the cutting, punchering, burnishing, stitching, debosing, etc myself under his experienced eye. He gets you to experience everything and is extremely patient.
I would recommend this to anyone, specially those with an interest in working with leather or just learning about the craft.
Arrived and was immediately offered a cup of tea with a selection of biscuits.
Enjoyed the tea while having an in-depth discussion about the different types of leather and dyeing techniques.
Then it was belt making time; learning how to cut and stitch leather, practising on small scraps before committing to the actual belt, all under the careful supervision of Richard.
Every question was answered, every detail explained and at every step I was given the time to get it right and walk away with my own handcrafted belt.
If you want to try leathercraft for the first time, I can highly recommend Richards' class. It's friendly, relaxed, informative and well structured.
A really fun day.
Richard is lovely and knowledgable.
Did this course to celebrate mine and my husband’s 3rd (leather) wedding anniversary. I made a leather bracelet and my husband a belt.
His workshop is at the back of his house and he’ll offer you drinks and biscuits.
Item made look really professional
Richard was very patient and knowledgeable man.
My fellow trainee and I made two fab leather belts.
I made a few errors but Richard helped to correct them so I ended the session with a beautiful leather belt that I can be proud of.
Included coffee and biscuits too!
The course was fantastic, Richard was extremely patient and very happy to answer any questions I had. I felt that I came away with a new set of skills and a good understanding of the basics. The course was very good value and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. My belt is beautiful and I will have it forever. I will be back to try another workshop.
I had a really enjoyable day on the workshop and made my own belt, what more can I say, a really good day!
Working with vegetable tanned leather was really interesting, and burnishing the edges was not something I knew about, and also learnt a lot about whats involved in creating a special design belt. Thanks for all the guidance Richard. I love my belt!
