Make Space workshops for 2021 are in person relaxed classes to help you rediscover the simple joys of creative play. Reconnect to nature and making with your hands in a Reduction Linocut workshop, suitable for all abilities. Choose between the 3rd of July and 7th of August- the classes on both dates are from 10-12.30.
Looking at leaves and flowers to inspire work is a wonderful way to experience the pleasure and healing power of both creativity and nature. Its also a very liberating subject matter with which to learn a printmaking technique, as the design and the print can be as imaginative as you like. I’ve designed a two and a half hour workshop in the co-working studio at Shared Space Hitchin in the centre of the town, where you will learn the linocutting and hand printing technique using simple tools, to produce some original and unique prints.
Come and learn how compelling it is to produce beautiful handmade linocuts, and enjoy a morning immersed in creative flow. I will show you how to transfer an image from a book or photograph onto lino, making the class suitable for beginners. Or as I can tailor the class according to each students needs and experience, this workshop is equally suited to improvers and experts.
Once you are all settled down with a complimentary drink, I will guide you through how to choose a suitable design, then transfer it onto the lino; I will then show you step by step how to carve the design, how to ink the block, and finally how to print it using printmaking equipment. We will make two colour reduction prints, which means using one piece of lino to carve away in stages, building up the colour to reach the final print. You will end up with a wonderful selection of inspired work. Feel free to bring any images you would like to work with; I'll have lots of source material for you to look at too.
Each printmaker will have their own sanitised tools for personal use only, you’ll all have your own socially distanced work space and will wear masks- the room is very well ventilated so every care will be taken to ensure our safety.
The workshop takes place from 10-12.30. Simply reserve a space on your preferred date, and I will post you a workshop ticket with details and directions
Use this time to relax and find your flow in a very non pressured environment, with space to explore new materials and rediscover the beauty and joy in really looking at the nature that surrounds us. Making has a meditative effect, and giving yourself the morning to create is a wonderful gift.
