Our online portrait drawing sessions are relaxed, friendly and open to drawers of all abilities and levels of experience. This untutored clothed portrait session will focus on the head & shoulders with three live-streamed poses. We’ll begin with a 10-minute warm up, where the model will be holding their head still whilst talking to our session leader, giving you the chance to make quick sketches of their articulate face. They will then hold a 45-minute-long pose, followed by a 15-minute tea break before a new 45-minute pose.
Working from a photograph gives you consistency, but it cannot replicate the sense of community and presence that you will get from drawing alongside other people. Live, online classes are the next best thing to drawing from life – you share an experience with the model and other people at the session, united by the act of drawing.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
If you'd like to join the session, just add the session to the cart and pay for the class - you'll receive a confirmation receipt right away. Then, 30 minutes before the session begins you will receive a link to join the event on Zoom. The session costs £8 or £4 for students/low income. Recordings are not available to anybody attending the session as a one-off, however they are available to anybody on the Portrait and Life Drawing Tiers of the Draw Patreon.
Looking after the model:
- Please, never take photographs or screen shots of the model
- Keep your camera on during the session – this helps the model to feel safe and to maintain the sense of community that is so important to our classes. If you cannot turn your camera on, just let the session leader know by chat message at the start of the session.
- If you enjoyed the session and have a little money to spare, you can send them a thank you tip via a link that accompanies the booking. The model is paid £125+ royalties for the recordings.
After the session
There is no pressure to share your drawings, but if you would like to you can post them up on the Draw Community Facebook group – it is a great chance to see the work other people have made and to connect with other sketchers.
To take part, you need:
A Zoom account
A tablet or smartphone with the Zoom app or a computer
Drawing or painting materials

It was not really my cup of tea. But it was nice
A good session with plenty of time to complete the portraits. Fabulous model who was a delight to draw. The session was very good value for money and I will be interest in future sessions.
