A basic leatherwork starter day for making a small project such as a belt, arm bracer, or phone case.
I run private one day starter courses/workshops from my workshop on a farm near Perth, for one-to-one mentoring or a group of up to six persons. This is ideal for those who have a specific project in mind or just want to learn the basics.
On my courses I like to cover as much as the craft as possible from leatherwork history, how to make templates and patterns, to cutting, carving, dyeing, hand stitching, lacing, braiding, and offer a comprehensive list of tools and where to get them at the best price. I like my students to come away from a course with not only a nice finished product, but the means to comfortably continue leatherwork on their own with a solid foundation of skills and knowledge.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
All materials and tools are provided for the course, and you keep whatever you make.
I am not able to offer accommodation, though there are plenty of B&Bs and hotels within a 15 minute drive, or camping available on site.
This craft course provider has been awarded Bronze status for receiving 1 or more 5 star ratings from previous students.
The Students' Choice award ensures that course providers get recognised for their efforts in the teaching and practice of UK craft.
They also allow tutors to gain valuable feedback on their courses and for new students to find the course that's right for them.
A day very well spent under the excellent tuition of Hamish.
I learned a great deal about the techniques, tools and skills to start me on the journey of leather work and would definitely recommend this course to anyone with an interest in doing more with leather.
Hamish is an extremely knowledgeable and passionate teacher with a wealth of practical tips and information on the history of leather working.
I'm already planning my next project and looking forward to another course with Hamish in the future!
