About the Course
Overview of the day
10am arrival at Sue O'Mara Art in the Woodland Studio, welcomes, introductions, health and safety instructions and overview of the day.
We will discuss the materials we will be using such as oil paints, painting medium, the brushes needed for the project we are going to produce today and what size canvas we will use. Then we will trace or sketch our drawing onto the canvas, begin an underpainting using the appropriate colour.
At around 11.30 we will have a hot drink and biscuit break and see how things are progressing.
We will then continue our painting project using a colour pallet of our chosen oil paints. I will be on hand to guide, encourage and assist you at all times.
We will stop for a supplied lunch (suitable for all dietary needs) at about 1pm for 45 minutes, when you can sit outside on the patio if the weather permits, and enjoy the lovely woodland setting of the studio while you have your lunch.
We will then spend the rest of the afternoon finishing your painting so you have a fabulous finished product. We will have a tea and biscuit break some time in the afternoon so we don’t run out of artistic steam!
Then at around 3.45 we will clean our workstations and brushes and have a photo opportunity where you can show off your newly painted masterpiece.
Class finishes at 4pm and I do ask people to leave by 4.30pm as I may have an evening class to prepare for.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

Great course, I was amazed how much I learnt in just one day.

What a wonderful introduction to oil painting the 6 week course is! I turned up having never done any oil painting before and after the first 2 sessions I had finished my first painting under the expert guidance of Sue. She is a lovely lady, very calm and encouraging and very experienced so able to answer any queries or concerns I had. She holds the classes in her quiet and light filled studio at the back of her house. I felt very nervous embarking on this course but she has filled me with confidence and I am now on to my 3rd painting which is surprisingly intricate (my choice of subject matter) but I feel happy that with Sue's help I can achieve the picture I set out to do. I would recommend any of Sue's courses to any one who has an interest in oil painting, whether they have any previous experience or not.

The warm welcome given to us by Sue set the tone of this creative but relaxing day. We learnt some very clever techniques and were encouraged to see the positive in every mark we made (even if we thought we had made a mistake). I was amazed to come away with a finished oil painting.

I thoroughly enjoyed the oil painting day course with Sue. She is warm, welcoming and knowledgeable not to mention full of great tips. I surprised myself with the winter scene that I was able to create with Sue’s support and guidance. The day was well paced and I enjoyed every minute. Highly recommended.
