Nuno Scarf - An Introduction to Nuno Felting



A fabulous opportunity to create a beautiful scarf while learning how to Nuno Felt. You will learn how to fuse the traditional technique of wet felting with the contemporary nuno process to design and make a unique new fabric by combining wool fibres with silk chiffon to make a Scarf. During the day you will select the colour(s) you wish to work with and learn how to dye your silk chiffon fabric to coordinate with your design. You will gain an understanding of how and why wool fibres adhere to fabric, observe how different textured effects are possible using different weights and types of fabric and wool, and apply this knowledge to make your own scarf using silk chiffon. OPTION: Private 1-2-1 and group bookings can be made, likewise Emma is happy travel to teach with groups, schools and colleges at your venue. An option to negotiate the focus of the workshop is available for 1-2-1/private groups - for instance it can be delivered over two days / focus on sampling with different fabrics / incorporate making scarves using other fabrics e.g habotai, marginal silk, silk charade (these silks and longer delivery times will attract an additional cost). Your tutor will be Emma Jackson, a felt maker with over twenty years experience teaching, designing & making felt for her award winning textiles company, Silversoles. The workshop will take place in her home studio in South Birmingham with a small group of no more than five. Please note: the studio is situated at the bottom of a garden with one step up to access the building.

All felting materials and light refreshments of tea, coffee & biscuits are provided as part of the courses alongside handout notes to help you continue to enjoy making your chosen felt projects in the future. Please bring along a packed lunch.

Emma is an experienced textiles tutor and artist who specialises in making felt. She has over twenty years experience teaching, designing and making felt for her award winning textiles company, Silversoles. Emma enjoys teaching and feels it plays an important role in her practice.
