As part of our Art in the Barn Creative Arts Week, we will be offering an introduction to block printing on fabric.
If you have ever considered designing and creating something to use in your home or thought about making personalised gifts for your family and friends, this is the workshop for you.
Join us in our thatched Long Barn in the heart of the Meon Valley. This is a light and spacious venue which allows you to be socially distanced from the other participants, with use of your own equipment.
Bring along your designs ideas or images, patterns and shapes and learn how to translate them into a design, before cutting a stamp using Essdee Master Cut and printing your design. We will initially create paper and card based products, such as gift tags and gift wrap, before printing onto tea towels and tote bags.
This workshop is suitable for people with a range of creative experiences, wishing to explore printing stamps on to paper and fabric.
The workshop will be delivered by Alison Butler and Liz Wellby: Alison has over 25 years experience as a textile designer and book illustrator, whilst Liz is an experienced fine artist, teacher and maker, with a particular interest in print.
Social distancing measures will be in place.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
All materials* and equipment will be provided. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day; just bring your lunch.
* Two tea towels or two tote bags or one tea towel and one tote bag will be provided - please state your preference at the time of booking.Further items may also be ordered/ purchased at the time of booking: tea towels and small tote bags - £3 and large tote bags - £5.
Please be aware that late bookings may not have this choice, as an order will have to be placed several days ahead of the workshop date.
If you have any pieces of plain or patterned cotton or linen, please bring these along and try printing on them - please wash and iron ahead of the workshop.
Please use the 'Ask a question' link above if you have any queries or if you wish to book a place.

What an amazing escape from the stresses of life this course was. Beautiful surroundings. All appropriate saftey measures in place .
Im a complete novice so was apprehensive but keen to learn.
I was well supported and encouraged by the lovely instructor. Had plenty of time to try lots of different approaches to this art form. The day just flew by.
I will definitely be back to try other art projects here. It was a real tonic. Thank you

Dear Rosy, Grania and Charlie, really pleased you had a great day . It was lovely working with you all , great collaborative work ! Hope to see you in March .best wishes Alison and LizReally super day with friendly and knowledgable tutors in a gorgeous location. As a complete beginner I was a bit worried about how I would get on but both Alison and Liz were very patient and approachable. Covid guidelines were explained clearly and it was easy to physically distance, even during the demonstrations. I would thoroughly recommend both the course and the tutors. Thanks for a lovely day!

Hi Sarah ,A really excellent day. The barn is in beautiful surroundings so the peaceful day starts from the moment you approach. Easy parking right by the barn. Good COVID precautions taken, e.g. spaced out tables, wear a mask when moving about, one-way system through the barn.
All you needed for the day was laid down on the table and ready as you arrived, which gave a little ripple of excitement from the beginning! Alison and Liz were very welcoming.
The teaching was clear and easy to follow, even for those completely new to the whole process and Liz and Alison shared their time between people so you never felt at a loss.
We all went home with lots of examples from the day and hopefully the confidence to start experimenting ourselves.
One tip - I had not thought properly about the venue being a big barn, with stone floors and high ceilings and had not dressed warmly enough for the day. There are heaters high in the ceiling and on the walls, which Alison put on, but if you go during colder months remember to dress warmly in layers!
Overall, a really great course in a lovely venue with very friendly tutors.
