Batik - This will be a class where you learn how to:
*use a tjanting tool correctly
*heat hot beeswax
*stretch cotton fabric onto a frame
*as a relief to block out areas on the cotton material.
What is Batik:
Using a tjanting tools, which is a small bowl with a tube that is used like a pen but instead of releasing ink you release hot beeswax and other mark making tools are demonstrated, card, brushes and sponges etc.
Batik dyes are used to create your beautiful masterpiece, you will iron out the wax before you take your picture home to frame.
Your final piece of wall-art approx will be 16''x16'' or similar. Although I have a variety of frame shapes for you to choose from.
You will make A5 samples with various techniques as practice pieces, they also look lovely in a frame or on gift cards.
It will be a great experimental day, just remember accidents can be happy accidents!
Silk painting is an alternative to batik - (Face to Face only):
Silk painting using gutta and silk paints. Please let me know via the 'Ask a question' button after booking if you choose this option.

I did this batik course on 17 September 2020. It was just wonderful. All equipment was available and thanks to Barbara I was able to make a beautiful batik first time. It is gorgeous and I will be framing it. Barbara is so friendly and relaxed with you to make you feel comfortable with the process. I would definitely promote her classes. A lovely light place to create your art. I can only thank her for her friendly manner, tips, tricks, and information.

After completing an introduction to batik workshop and liking the technique so much, I went back again to do a full day's workshop. All the materials and equipment were supplied, and lots of useful hints and tips given. I was delighted with the result that and it is now framed and hanging on my lounge wall. I can highly recommend this course.

Had a great day under the supportive and knowledgable guidance of Barbara, I can’t believe that I was able to produce such a piece on my first Batik course...I’m going to get it framed.
