Paint with Wool' and Needle Felt your own Herdwick Sheep ... The iconic breed of the Lake District ~ with Jane Makes Learn how to paint with wool to create a beautiful Herdwick sheep, crafted with real wool fibres into a hessian background. Over the duration of the day Jane will show you how to create a 2D Herdwick head using the needle felting technique. You don’t need any drawing skills, and everyone is welcome, from beginners to improvers. Jane will guide you through the tools & techniques needed and go through the various attributes of different breeds of sheep and their wool, which fibres work well and why - as well as which needles to use for different finishes and effects, and also how to correct mistakes. You will be working on a hessian background and build your picture through the manipulation and layout of fibres, from colour choices and blending to the beautiful intricate detailed effects to bring your herdy to life! You will take home a beautiful felted picture, and as a bonus you will also get to keep the tools you used over the day, meaning you can continue your new found love of felting when you get home. Jane will bring along a selection of 100% real Wool fibres, a foam mat as a working surface, Hessian for your background and 2 felting needles and all these materials will be yours to take home at the end of the day - just in case you feel the need for a final tweaking of your piece.

Welcome drinks: fresh coffee & home-made biscuits; a tasty lunch served individually at your desks or outside on the Tea Lawn if it's warm enough. To finish off the day, a freshly made Cream Tea (including Aga-baked scones, cream and jam). Kindly note that there will be a materials charge of £18 to be paid to the tutor directly on the day. We host over 140 different art and craft ‘Quirky Workshops’ each year here in Greystoke and have been operating since 2005. All our tutors are carefully hand selected professional experts and many are considered as national leaders in their field. We look forward to welcoming you to the Lake District and Cumbria. Situated in a tranquil location on the fringes of the Lake District in north west England, we have been hosting a Quirky range of workshops since 2005. We are now proud to offer over 140 Arts, Craft and Heritage Skills Workshops each year, led by an incredible and talented range of local and national tutors, all experts in their field. We have two teaching studios, the 'Squirrel Barn' and the newly renovated, spacious and airy 'Swallow Barn', the latter of which, at 60m2 was very popular in the months post Covid, allowing 2m distancing, hand washing and two staircases. We have several garden teaching spaces too. Lunch (included) can be taken outside on the Tea Lawn in warmer months and teas/coffee with Aga home-baking is served at your desk. Our days are considered real treats.
