Create your own 'one of a kind' macramé bag with the help of local artist and sculptor Lucy Wayman.
You will learn the basic principles and techniques of macramé, and use 100% cotton rope and a selection of coloured twines to create a hand-crafted bag. A helpful instruction manual will be provided to guide you through your project.
You'll first master the knots on a smaller scale pieces, key rings and bracelets, getting use to the techniques and ironing out any hiccups. Once you've built up an understanding of the knots, you'll move on to designing and making your own bespoke macramé bag.
This 5 hour workshop allows for a more complex understanding of the knots, and for you to create more ambitious and unique designs. All the knots and techniques learnt in the class will give you the confidence and knowledge to further your own macramé projects.
Whether you're a beginner, or have tried macramé before, this workshop will suit you. And is a must for anyone interested in learning more about the art of macramé. If you have treasured items at home, such as beads, gems, hoops and handles, you are welcome to bring these with you, and Lucy will show you how to incorporate them into your design.

The Arienas Collective workshops are run from a supportive and welcoming home-based environment within Edinburgh’s City Centre Georgian New Town. We invite you to turn up, leave any day-to-day worries behind, and immerse yourself in creating something unique.
Spaces on our workshops are limited so that our artists and makers can offer you the hands-on help and support you need to make the most of your time with us.
All equipment is provided, and the materials you need to complete your project are included in the price of your workshop (unless stated otherwise).
Our buffet-style refreshment breaks are an important part of all The Arienas Collective workshops, courses and experiences. They are a time to socialise, make new friends and chat to the artists and makers. We are fortunate to have a fantastic range of independent shops and producers nearby, and feature locally sourced food and drinks wherever possible. A wide range of dietary requirements can be catered for.
PLEASE NOTE: Our workshop space is on the first-floor of a Georgian mews building and unfortunately we do not have lift access. Due to COVID-19, we have had to adapt the way we run our workshops and there may be some changes to the way it is delivered.
This workshop is also available to book for private group get-togethers; themed wedding and birthday celebrations; for corporate team building and well-being purposes; and can be brought to a location of your choice. Please email us or phone 07732 901150 for more information.

Had a fantastic evening in this taster workshop. It was a great opportunity to try out the skills with loads of support.
Lucy was very friendly and approachable allowing you to get the most out of the time. This was a small workshop so plenty of capacity for one on one support.
Definitely something I’d try again and maybe even try out the wall hanging session next!
Response from The Arienas Collective:Hi Heather
I really enjoyed my evening with Nichole learning Macrame and was delighted with my finished wall hanging. Nichole was so patient with all of us as we repeatedly asked how to do a certain knot again! Loved the ambient environment with relaxing music and meeting new people. Would definitely recommend.
Response from The Arienas Collective:Hello Suzanne. Thanks for your lovely review. Nichole is a great teacher and very patient with all of us as we try to master the basic knots. Your plant holder looked amazing, and features in some of our online photos and video! (Thanks for giving us permission to use them.) Hope it's got pride of place in your home - send us a photo of it hanging up if you've time. Best wishes, Lynn x
