Let the world go for a while and spend time on our farm in the Surrey Hills. Learn to wield a drawknife on a Shavehorse and turn a log into a spatula to cherish and use. We can’t wait to welcome you!
No experience is needed. Tools and materials are provided, along with lots of tea, coffee and biscuits to keep you going. (Over 18s only)
What to expect
The small classes take place in the beautiful setting of our family farm nestled on the edge of Sheepleas nature reserve and at the foot of The Surrey Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The workspace is undercover in an open sided farm building, or weather dependant can be around the open fire in a small adjacent copse. Lunch is often cooked on the same fire and served there.
Most participants are beginners, although some may be returning to further practice their skills and gain more experience.
During the experience - We will guide you through the steps to making a wooden spoon of your own. During the day, you’ll explore: The Shavehorse and general tool use, how to form the main spatula shape from a billet (block of wood) using a Shave horse, Knife work using a drawn knife & sloyd knife.
The kettle will be on throughout, we’ll have some organised breaks, but you’re welcome to stop and have a cuppa around the open fire anytime. This is an introduction to a new craft, being creative and slowing down to appreciate the art of carving.
Arts and crafts experience gift cards - Our flexible gift cards make brilliant presents and allow the lucky recipient to choose this or any course that takes their fancy.
Corporate team wellness craft experience day - Teambuilding with a difference! Spend time crafting together, away from the stresses of the business world. We are happy to tailor an experience that’s just right for your team.

A lovely relaxing way to spend 1/2 day, and easier to do than I expected. George is a great teacher and I’d thoroughly recommend trying this workshop. The shave horse was easy to use and satisfying!
The indoor/outdoor craft workshop next to the camp/open fire 🔥 was a lovely setting.
