Description

A great introduction to Greenwood carving. Learn to turn a log into something to cherish and use at home. Spend a relaxing time on our farm in the Surrey Hills away from the hustle with an introductory half day greenwood craft experience. You can lose yourself for a few hours as you create with your hands in this wonderful traditional wood craft whilst you soak in the surrounding nature. It’s a relaxed session with regular breaks by the open fire with locally roasted coffee. (Weather permitting). Aimed at beginners over 18 yrs. What to expect The small classes take place in the beautiful setting of our family farm nestled on the edge of Sheepleas nature reserve and at the foot of The Surrey Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The workspace is undercover in an open sided farm building, or weather dependant can be around the open fire in a small adjacent copse. Lunch is often cooked on the same fire and served there. This is an excellent course for beginners to learn Greenwood carving skills. During the experience - We will guide you through the steps to learn to carve a wooden spatula or butter knife from a billet (part of a log) to a spatula using a shave horse and traditional greenwood carving tools. During the day, you’ll explore: The Shavehorse and general greenwood carving tool use, starting with a billet (a block of wood) you'll form your item using a Shave horse, drawn knife & sloyd knife. The kettle will be on throughout, we’ll have some organised breaks, but you’re welcome to stop and have a cuppa around the open fire anytime. This is an introduction to a new craft, being creative and slowing down to appreciate the art of carving. Arts and crafts experience gift cards - Our flexible gift cards make brilliant presents and allow the lucky recipient to choose this or any course that takes their fancy. Corporate team wellness craft experience day - Teambuilding with a difference! Spend time crafting together, away from the stresses of the business world. We are happy to tailor an experience that’s just right for your team. About Joy Farms - The Joy Family has been working their land and crafting in the tranquil Surrey Hills for nearly a century.
