About the Course

The aim is to provide a relaxed, friendly, supportive, experimental and fun experience where you will learn a new (or revive a previous) skill and take home something you feel proud enough to frame!

Group size: 4 – 6 people. You can book as a group or as an individual

We will start by preparing an original image ready to be transferred onto lino, then you will cut your lino design. You will then have an opportunity to prepare and experiment with a range of collaged surfaces and coloured papers to print your lino design onto. We will then spend the afternoon printing. Work may still be ‘tacky’ at going home time so it can either be sent home to you a few days later or you may wish to consider how you could transport it home – spread out in the boot of the car would work.

About your host:
I graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a BA (Hons) in Knitwear & Fashion Design and have worked as a freelance hand-knit designer, and in fashion retail as a manager, buyer and visual merchandiser. In 2003, I completed my PGCE at Homerton College Cambridge and have spent the last 14 years teaching Art and Textiles to GCSE and A Level students.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

Please bring a packed lunch
If you have a particular theme or image you would like to work from please bring it along – your own drawings, photographs or magazine cuttings are all good source materials – but don’t worry if you haven’t – that can all be provided.
Please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting messy and/or an apron

What we will provide:
The workshop will take place in a converted coach house set in a beautiful garden. There will be the opportunity to work outside if weather permits or inside a light filled open space.
All materials and equipment will be provided.
There will be coffee/tea and cookies available in the morning, and afternoon tea and cake. Please let us know of any special dietary requirements.

How to find us:
The Old Coach House is in Southoe, a small village off the A1 between St Neots and Buckden. St Neots train station is nearby and we can provide transport to and from the station. Exact details of how to find us will be provided upon booking and payment.
We look forward to welcoming you,

I had a really wonderful day and Judith was an excellent tutor, who is clearly very talented. I was thrilled with the images I produced and subsequently did some online purchasing to practise this at home. I would definitely attend a follow-on course to learn more complex techniques in the new year.

What a lovely day learning lino printing! As a complete beginner I couldn't recommend this course, or Judith, more highly. The atmosphere is relaxed and encouraging, and although everyone on the course chose very different subject matter, we all ended the day with a collection of amazing and individual prints. I would do it again tomorrow.

I really enjoyed this workshop and also found it very helpful. I had done some lino printing at home and Judith showed me how to go on the next stage, adding layers of colour to my prints. A friendly and relaxed atmosphere, even though we were all concentrating very hard! A lovely setting too. Highly recommended.

The whole day was fantastic. The workshop is airy, light and in a beautiful setting. Jude was brilliant - patient, calm and gave excellent demos so that we were clear on the process. She helped me achieve my somewhat ambitious tessellated design and I loved my results. The yummy cake, coffees and teas helped lubricate the process. If you are looking for a great day course I would highly recommend this one. It would also be great fun with a group of friends.

I came with a little experience of Lino cut but lacked confidence in the printing process. Judith guided everyone through each stage, encouraging experimentation with cuts, paper and colour, and gave great tips for when we did more at home. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding day. Thank you Judith.

What a fantastic day! I thoroughly enjoyed this course, Judith made us all feel welcome & it was very relaxed. I’m so pleased with my print. I went in a nervous beginner, not sure what to expect & came out full of enthusiasm & can’t wait to get started on another design from home. Five stars

Was a nice day. We had a good group with a diverse range of prints which I found interesting and inspiring.

Thanks Judith for arranging the gf snacks too. I'd say come with sketches ready to go so you can spend more time experimenting with colours and paper.

A really great course and perfect for a beginner like me. The environment was lovely and Judith taught the course in a very clear and accessible way. I came away with a great understanding of lino cutting and a some nice prints. Highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed this course! It was held in a beautiful light and airy building situated in an idyllic location. Judith began by showing us lots of inspirational examples of prints demonstrating the techniques we could use in our own work. The day was busy but fun and we were treated to lots of coffee, tea and biscuits. Judith was very patient and encouraging. I would highly recommend it!

Fantastic day with Judith at the Old Rectory - the lino cut and printing course was very well structured and Judith is an excellent guide and teacher. I have learned so much today and am delighted with the results I achieved as a complete beginner! Judith has a way of getting the best out of you. The coffee, tea, biscuits and cakes were fantastic too! I thoroughly recommend the course, the quality of the materials provided and the space and setting in which we were able to work.

Wow, what a fabulous day. Hard work, busy and intensive, but so worth it. Judith is a great teacher, a perfect balance of teaching techniques and practical activity. Judith is really supportive and encouraging, she is extremely approachable and friendly. The six hours went so quickly and I came away with thirteen A4 prints of my original lino cut in different colours and on different backgrounds. The workshop location was easy to find, minutes off the A1 and in a beautifully converted building with easy parking. Real coffee, tea, yummy biscuits and cake too. Highly recommended.

A great course, I was made to feel very welcome and accommodated as the complete beginner that I was. The small group was made of people at various stages of proficiency, each was treated individually according to experience and ability with Judith gently pushing you onto the next stage when she felt you were ready for it and suggesting the direction to go in. We all came away with something we were pleased to have achieved and I feel that I am now in a position to continue this at home with a good degree of confidence.

Highly recommended.

This was one of the best workshops I've ever attended. Judith's enthusiasm, patience and encouragement in explaining the process and then helping with design ideas was very constructive. The group size was perfect and it was very inspiring watching everybody's creations emerge! The coach house is a lovely setting and we were all made very welcome. I would definitely recommend this course.

I had a wonderful day at Judith's workshop. The Coach House was an excellent venue and everyone in the small group was friendly and enthusiastic. Judith was very encouraging and her instruction was brilliant. I was pleased with my first attempt at lino-printing and am planning to do more. I would definitely recommend this course.

This was a fabulous workshop and ideal for both beginners and those with some experience. The group size was small enough to quickly make friends and gain confidence, and it was lovely to be excited about every print that was revealed by each group member. Judith was brilliant at instruction and at making suggestions, as well as encouraging us to experiment with paper, ink, and other background media. The coach house was a good venue with good facilities. I would definitely recommend this course.

Can't recommend this course highly enough. As well as being a great introduction to the art of lino printing, it was lovely to spend time at the Old Coach House in such a welcoming and warm environment. Really enjoyed meeting the other students and Judith was friendly and inspiring. I'd love to do the course again, now that I've had a taste of it!

- - #12459

I had an awesome day with Judith. She helped me decide the design to bring to the course and showed me lots of different ways to use the lino print I made. It was a very friendly and constructive environment to learn in and I will be framing and hanging my prints. I would recommend this course to any one who wants to learn about lino-printing.

Really enjoyed the day with Judith. She was very encouraging and gave us lots of suggestions when making our design and choosing how to print it. Lovely rural venue. Came home with something to frame and put on the wall!
