Course Start DatesSaturday 4th July 2020
About the Course
In this energetic two-day life drawing workshop run by author and artist Jake Spicer we'll explore structural approaches to drawing the unclothed figure. Starting with observational drawing exercises we'll hone our ability to see shapes and edges in the figure through a series of shorter poses. Jake will then introduce a structural approach to constructing the figure on the page, exploring methods for identifying key landmarks on the model and translating those observations to the page. On the second day we will look at the key masses of the body and how we can use observational tools to check the proportions of our drawings over longer poses, with plenty of time allowed for individual feedback and input.
Booking is essential as we expect the session to sell out - you can either book via the link below or in person at the Draw studio. If you book via the website please bring your printed or digital receipt as proof of payment and if you book using the student rate please bring your student ID.
The session starts at 10:30am and you are welcome to arrive from 10:15am - the main doors of New England House will be locked so you'll just need to call the phone number on the door to be let in.

I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this life drawing course to everybody, whether you’re a complete beginner, a professional artist, on somewhere in-between. All you need to bring is your willingness to have a go!
Don’t be put off by the word ‘intensive’: this course is good fun! It’s also great value for money! It is rare to have the opportunity to be taught by a leader in the field of life drawing. As such, Jake Spicer is not only a master of his craft but also a gifted and generous teacher. He is very down to earth and has an informal, approachable teaching style. He also possesses an extraordinary ability to translate technical content into information that everyone can understand and use.
The course is expertly structured. I’d worried that I might be overwhelmed but each new piece of information was broken down into easy to understand pieces. There were plenty of examples and drawing exercises designed to encourage you to experiment and develop your skills. Successive ‘bites’ of information built towards a progressively in-depth understanding of life drawing. I, for one, exceeded my expectations of what I was capable of as a result of this course. I came away buzzing with new ideas and inspired to continue my artistic journey at Draw.
