About the Course
This is your chance to hand forge from start to finish your own knife and then make a sheath that will be unique to that knife. You will start with a piece of 1045 carbon steel and with hammer and anvil, forge the complete knife from handle to tip, all done under the watchful eye of myself and Dave.
This course is a great place to start if you are interested in the art of bladesmithing as it covers all the basics through the forging process, to the use of pro. style knife grinders, the heat treatment, from normalizing through to hardening and tampering.
Once your knife has it's paracord handle it's time to finish it with a kydex sheath.
Kydex is a form of plastic that will mould its selfie into shape if heated then pressed down around what it is to take the shape of, so absolutely perfect for a knife sheath.
You will leave with massive smile and a knife and sheath of your own making.
You must be 18 or over to take this course, if you look under 25 please bring ID.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
Everything you need is provided to complete your project. A bottle of water is a good idea.
My wonderful girlfriend got me this course as a Christmas present. Upside: hands down best Christmas present literally EVER! Downside: there's basically no way I'll ever be able to get her something even on par with this for her.
Now for the meat of it:
Andy and his apprentice(?) Dave are both what you'd expect from a blacksmith, big mountains of men. That said they've both got a very friendly demeanour, and easy smiles.
Their teaching style really worked for me, a quick demonstration of how something is done, then they let you at it. While you're forging they're never too far away, and always there with a pointer or suggestion if they see you're struggling with something.
All in all it was a fabulous experience and I'd recommend them to anyone with even a tiny bit of interest in forging. I was having such a blast my girlfriend decided to take the half day knife course while I finished my Seax course!
The rating system doesn't go high enough for the rating these craftsmen deserve!

Great 2 days in the forge, shown the techniqes and let get one with it. Any point I was having some difficulty or making life harder than it needed to be he was there to help me get back on track. Really impressed with the work I was able to do under his guidance.

One of the best Christmas presents I ever had. After watching forged in fire I wanted a go and whilst they make it look easy on tv it certainly isn’t! Luckily Andy was on hand to show me the way. 2 days later I have my very own seax. I will be back again and would recommend this to everyone. Some are pics and videos (Andy is great at this too) are on my Instagram @rhysids
