About the Course

Join Ella to create your own pewter vessel, ideal as a pen/brush pot or to hold a succulent, with a day packed full of pewtersmithing skills!

Using Pewter, a lead free metal, and rolling mill which is a traditional metalwork tool Ella will guide you through adding pattern and texture to metal. We will experiment with found and foraged textures such as mesh, lace and feathers to create delicate decoration on the pewter before bashing into a vessel shape. You will then learn to solder the vessel, adding a bottom, before finishing and polishing using files and polishing tools.

Ella is a full time pewtersmith based at Manchester Craft and Design Centre. Having specialised in pewter after completing her jewellery and silversmithing training her work has been recognised through awards from The Worshipful Ccompany of Pewterers and she has completed many prestigious commissions over the course of her career.

Suitable for beginners or those who have tried jewellery or silver before.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

Want to review this course?

Ella is a great teacher, straightforward, enthusiastic and lively. We all got stuck in straight away and surprised ourselves with what and how much we made in a day. There was designing and sawing and soldering and carving and molten pewter all going on at the same time and the atmosphere was friendly and creative. I hope to come back to make more in pewter again soon.
