Fissures II - Nuno Felted Mosaic Scarves

X

Description

Inspired by the Icelandic landscape, this workshop focuses on making a nuno felted scarf by creating fissure patterns and complex surface textures. During my visits to Iceland, I was struck by the juxtaposition of the rugged landscapes with the fragility of the environment and precarious existence of life on the island. As a result, I began exploring these aspects of the Icelandic environment by fusing felted wool and silk fabrics. Taking this inspiration I have designed this workshop in which we will explore how to create pre-felt and apply this fused wool to silk fabrics to design your own unique nuno felted scarf. Working with merino wool we will embellish the wool surface with silk & viscose fibres to prepare a pre-felt. You will learn how to dye your silk charden fabric in your chosen colour and understand the principles of nuno felting. By the close of the workshop you will create a unique scarf having learnt the nuno felting process to bond the pre-felted fabric with the silk fabric. This is a great opportunity to learn several new techniques during a one day workshop and apply them to creating a finished scarf. Small workshop groups are guaranteed, allowing you plenty of individual tuition. I will guide you through each stage of the process and supply illustrated handout notes to take home, giving you all the information you need to continue future felt making projects. Please note: This workshop is suitable for those with prior feltmaking experience.
