Felted abstract collage using pre-felt with Purr & Wag It, Tabletop Workshops
The kit and video version of my pre-felt in-person or live online workshop and it's great for all ages including children. Inspired by the Masters: Miro, Matisse's cutouts, Braque's birds or the Bauhaus weavers create your very own felt collage masterpiece. Or use clever word play and the graphic quality of text to create some slogan art. Since the 60's a group of artists have used text at the centre of their work: Barbara Kruger, Jenny Holzer, Christopher Wool, Bruce Nauman to name a few. Of course you could go "off-piste" and use your own imagery. You'll use pre-felt - a partially processed form of felt to create your designs. Perfect for collage style imagery because of its propensity to be cut into clean crisp shapes. Wet felt making techniques are then used to bring the layers together into your finished work of art. Once dry, if you fancy, embellish your work with stitch or beads. The final stages of wet felting can be quite vigorous. If you have arthritis or a similar condition in your hands you may find parts of the process more challenging. This does not mean you will not be able to undertake this workshop, just that it may take you a little longer to fully felt your work. Shrinkage is part of the wet felting process. For pre-felt this is between 5-10% for rising to 10-30% for wet felted work starting with wool tops. If you're a larger group please contact me for special sessions. This form of felt making works well for birthday parties and school or community events. Working with younger/SEN children or vulnerable adults? Please use appropriate scissors eg., round tipped school style. During the purchase process you'll be asked to choose what colour of pre-felt you'd like for your background - natural, black, blue or plaster. Please note the complexity of your design will direct how long this project takes - 2 hours is a guide. If you're looking for something a little different, click 'message the maker' to discuss a bespoke package/the perfect date for you.
