Fan Birds with Olly Moses at Cambridge Art Makers

On this course you will learn how to make a bird from a single block of wood.

A fan bird is a beautiful decorative bird carving with origins in Eastern Europe. You will make these from a single piece of ash. The process of making a fan bird includes many fundamental hand tools including an axe, drawknife, shavehorse, chisel, gouge, push knife, and straight knife. Getting to grips with these tools is a great way into green woodworking in general.

You will learn how to use these tools safely and efficiently by understanding the edge geometry of the blades and how this relates to the grain of the wood.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

All tools and materials, tea, coffee and biscuits. Please bring a packed lunch and we recommend bringing a hat and sun cream and or warm wear too as weather permitting you will work outside.
