In-person course

Damascus Knife Making in Grassington for 2 People

X

Description

Please come and join me at my forge in the heart of The Yorkshire Dales for a knife making experience you are sure to remember forever. In my cosy, fully equipped smithy you will have the opportunity to forge a lasting memory using age old techniques.

In this 6 hour Damascus knife making class you will be forging, hardening and tempering your blade to make your knife fully usable. The blade and the handle will be forged from the same piece of Damascus steel known as an integral handle. Once your knife had been polished you will then etch it in acid to bring out the beautiful pattern that Damascus has before putting the final edge on your knife .

Classes are suitable for absolute beginners; male and female from the age 18 and upwards, or for metalworkers seeking to gain a basic understanding of forging iron.

I'll start by lighting the coke forge, then after a short safety briefing and demonstration you'll be at the anvil, hammering your knife into shape. Safety boots and clothing you don't mind getting dirty are recommended; all other safety equipment will be provided.

Grassington is a beautiful village with walks up the river, across the Dales or through the picturesque Grass Woods. I would definitely recommend a stay in the village in addition to your day at the forge.

Classes are available 7 days a week, please get in touch to discuss your requirements; all classes can be tailored to your needs.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

Could not recommended this experience enough. Richard was incredibly knowledgeable and patient when instructing an absolute novice in blacksmithing. The whole experience was fun and a took place in an excellent environment. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the knife making experience and it is something we would both definitely do again with Richard.
