This course flows through the simple concertina (accordion) structure into more complex pieces using cut, stuck and sewn multi-layering to construct star books.
You will learn to fold accurate concertinas, working through a range of techniques and samples to create an individual piece developed in the class. On Wednesday we will add to our repertoire making a delightful seven-point star book structure.
Suitable for bookbinders, book artists and complete beginners alike. Includes Materials.
Nesta Davies studied bookbinding at the London College of Printing and City Lit. She set up her own studio, Leaf work, in north London and, following a move to Dorset now has a garden studio where she works and runs courses. Teaching has always been an important part of her work and she enjoys it immensely. She was for many years tutor-coordinator of Bookbinding at City Lit, London, where she still teaches, and was commissioning editor of The New Bookbinder from 2001 – 2012. She is currently on the committee for SoB Western Region and joint organiser for the 2020-21 series of DB/SoB Joint Workshops. Nesta works mainly to commission in both conservation and designed binding and has work in both national and international collections, including the British Library and the Neale Albert collection of Miniature Books.
