I attended a one day knife making course and it was excellent. I had never tried anything like this before but finished the day with a knife that I am proud of. Eamonn is an excellent teacher, really patient and explains to you how to do things and lets you get in on with it rather than just taking over, this means you learn more and you really feel that you made your item. The class numbers are small so ideal for working and learning. I would definitely recommend Eamonn's courses and I hope to be back.
I have been on a couple of courses at Hot Mild Forge and really enjoyed my time there. Very relaxed working environment allowing the student to work at their pace with one on one support as required. A total of 8 forges supports 8 students and you never or rarely need to share tools as the workshop is well kitted out. I had basic knowledge of the blacksmith shop and how it worked as I grew up beside 2, but I had not developed the skills. I learned a lot. My interest was to learn how to move hot metal for knife forging. I learn much of that plus a lot more. Eamonn was a good teacher and generous with information, wanting all to succeed. I would recommend to anyone to take a weekend away from normal life and try one of Eamonn's courses at Hot Milk Forge.
