Silver jewellery: If you love texture and surface pattern, this one is for you. Using hammers and a rolling mill, we’ll explore the impact and creativity of “low tech” tools on sterling silver. A practical, hand-made approach far removed from computer aided design and mass production.
Focusing on a range of jewellery making techniques, the workshop is designed to explore textural possibilities, develop your skills and encouraging you to create your own texture-based designs. Expect to make pendants or earrings that are tactile and unique as every pass through the rolling mill is different, and every hammer blow brings exciting changes to your piece. This workshop is perfect for complete beginners and those with some experience.
Amanda Hunter is a jeweller and educator who loves to teach people how to make jewellery. She has been running her own jewellery business, Passion Flower Studio, for 9 years and specialises in making individual pieces in silver and gold. A key feature of her work is surface texture created using natural and found objects. What she loves most about making jewellery is that it isn’t a delicate process. It involves bashing, bending, heat, acid, concentration and burnishing to turn an uninspiring piece of metal into a beautiful piece of jewellery to wear.
This workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a converted Lakeland barn on our traditional family Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay in one of our luxury camping pods on the farm. Check out our website for details.
All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience. Whilst this is a relatively new venture, George, who has set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education.
