FlowerStart: 4-week online flower arranging class
Are you too busy to commit to a regular flower arranging class? If so, this 4-week online flower arranging class is for you. Take the lessons in the comfort of your own home anywhere in the world, whenever you have some free time. There’s no real time commitment.
Via three emails a week we'll talk about finding the "happy" place for your flowers, whether flower food works, the visual value of your flowers and choosing flowers for different events. Each week will end with a practical task - using a mix of written instructions, photo tutorials and video. We'll make a contemporary arrangement in a glass vase, an arrangement in a vintage tea cup and saucer, an informal arrangement in a jug and a tied posy.
You can take the lessons at a time to suit you - join in week by week, or stagger them out to suit you.
The tips and tricks you’ll pick up will give you ideas to wow your friends and family with for years to come!
This course is taught by Julie Davies - The Florist That Teaches.
This course is self-guided (with no email/Facebook feedback from the tutor).
After many years in an office-based career, Julie retrained as a florist in 2004, but wasn’t happy with just providing displays for funerals and weddings. Her real passion is teaching, watching her students bring flowers to life, and seeing their joy as the stresses and strains of everyday life melt away in the therapy of arranging flowers. Julie teaches a variety of flower arranging classes in Kent, including activities for women who are looking for an alternative to book club or a girls’ night in, to clients with mental health issues as a part of their therapy, and at pop-up workshops.
She’s grown her flower arranging business from the kitchen table to deliver online flower arranging classes to kitchen tables all around the country.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
Three emails a week. Each week will end with a practical task - using a mix of written instructions, photo tutorials and video.
To complete this course you'll need a pair of scissors, access to flowers and greenery (from your garden, the supermarket of your florist) and a variety of vases/containers - all will be explained in your welcome email.

I absolutely loved this course. Julie struck just the right balance, very friendly and positive while giving constructive guidance on our work. The course Facebook group was very helpful and everyone very encouraging. Julie's instructive videos are excellent, and it is brilliant to get quick and useful feedback on the assignments. I highly recommend.
I started with no experience whatsoever just a love for flowers... I've ended the course with so much more confidence and idea on what I'm doing. I was a little nervous to begin with but everyone was so nice and Julie's feedback is so helpful and reassuring.
You can do this course at your pace when you get a spare hour here and there or save everything for a Sunday afternoon.
I can't recommend this course more!
I thoroughly enjoyed this course. I learned a lot, but loved that it didn't take up a huge amount of time (perfect if you are busy, and who isn't these days?).
I have got a lot more confidence in my flower arranging skills (which were non-existent a month ago) and know how to choose and combine flowers, and arrange them in a variety of containers.
The videos were great, and the written instructions and photos were also very helpful, giving a step by step guide that was easy to follow. The Facebook group is also great, as you can get quick feedback on what you have done.
I'm looking forward to building on the skills I have learned on this excellent course, thanks so much Julie!
This is a perfect course for people who are time strapped and cannot attend a weekly class. I can't believe how much I was able to learn online and with Julie's support. The great thing for me was the video step by step guides, followed up by one to one tuition to know how to improve for next time. I am a keen gardener, so plants are in my blood anyway, but this has really reignited my passion for flowers and encouraged me to bring them indoors! I find myself going round the garden and thinking 'that would look good in a vase'. Also, my vase collection has expanded massively as I cannot pass a charity shop without picking up another!
I have so enjoyed this online course. It is set at a pace that fits around your lifestyle, however busy that may be.
The videos and pictorial guides take you through each floral arrangement step by step. The course contains lots of clever hints and tips on how to get the most of your flowers before you even start arranging them. It is not just about flowers in a vase either, you will discover new ways to present your favourite blooms.
I found the Facebook group friendly, supportive and easy to use, a chance for everyone on the course to share their creations. Julie gave helpful, creative feedback to help develop your skills.
I have new skills that I can continue to use for many years, allowing me to get more from the flowers and foliage in my garden or a bouquet of flowers from a shop.
The perfect course for someone who wants to be more creative, and would make an ideal gift.
I loved this course and learned lots of flower arranging techniques. It was my birthday this month so i got to practice my skills. My favourite part was the self-paced learning and tasks, video and step by step instructions. These worked brilliantly for me to juggle around family and part-time work. The Facebook group element was really successful and it felt like shared learning for us all. Julie was a fabulous teacher, always positive and full of suggestions to help us improve further.
Julie's four week course was fun and informative. I love having flowers in the house but was guilty of just plonking them in a vase. This course gave me lots of ideas and tips to do something more! The Facebook group was great for interacting with other students and asking questions. I liked the fact that the homework was creating arrangements that I could see myself doing again and not just for special occasions.
Julie is a great tutor - her instructions and videos are well thought out and very clear. Her feedback was always positive, constructive and personal.
I thoroughly recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about making the most out of their supermarket flowers!
I really enjoyed this online flower arranging course which fitted nicely around my busy week. The tutorials and videos were easy to follow and Julie's feedback was excellent. I would highly recommend this course if you are looking for something creative and love flowers.
I took this online course with Julie Davies having had absolutely no experience at all. I found the tuition simple to follow and online videos were invaluble in learning the skills involved. Online support was excellent ranging from facebook, twitter and peers also taking the course.
The pace was just right for me with no pressure to complete tasks in a specified time. I was able to fit in the tasks with my own schedule and feedback was prompt and helpful.
I'd recommend this course for anyone who is interested in making the most of their flowers either from the garden or shop bought.
