Diana Owen reviewed: Weave a Country Basket

"A full-on day of learning a new technique and an enjoyable one to boot, with the added bonus of taking home a finished basket. The group of 8 was a good size as Juliet, our Tutor, was able to give us individual help when it was needed. Juliet was well-prepared, approachable and knowledgeable in her subject and prepared to share information on where to purchase the reeds and tools should we wish to take it up as a hobby. A great venue, course and day out."

Field Studies Council, Flatford Mill responded:

"Hi Diana, thank you so much for the kind review. It's great to hear you really enjoyed learning a new skill and got to take home your very own basket. It's so good to hear you had such a positive experience. We hope you can visit us again soon and maybe try one of our other craft courses. Best of luck with your future weaving, Juliet and the Field Studies Council team."

Carol Tierney reviewed: Weave a Country Basket

"This was such a lovely way to spend a day. Juliet is an excellent tutor and explained everything clearly with plenty of help available if it was needed. Most of the training was done by her demonstrating and explaining a step in the process and then us trying it. Really straightforward. Amazing to see the variety of different baskets we produced while all following the same steps - which goes to show that we all now have the skills to make a whole host of different baskets. The setting was a definite bonus, it was lovely to just be somewhere historic and beautiful surrounded by nice people and doing something new. Highly recommended."

Field Studies Council, Flatford Mill responded:

"Hi Carol, thank you so much for the kind review. It's so good to hear you enjoyed the Weave a Country Basket workshop. Even better that you all managed to create such different baskets. We hope you can visit us again soon and maybe try one of our other craft courses. Best wishes, Juliet and the Field Studies Council team."

Adrian reviewed: Lino Cutting and Printing

"Thoroughly enjoyed and learned a good deal from Amanda. She has an excellent teaching style which gave everyone plenty of individual attention whilst tutoring us all. Plenty of material was provided for our exercises together with basic tools. It was particularly special to make a piece which we could take away at the end of the day to show our achievement. "

Peter Ward reviewed: Bookbinding for Beginners and Improvers

"The standard of teaching was exceptional. Very intense from the start but considerable learning from practical experience under supervision. The three sessions per day were exhausting especially for total beginners. Would have liked a handout with basic sequencing of book making. Inspiring tutor who clearly loves his craft and found time for some personal support and direction. "

Jill Devon reviewed: Water Soluble Pencils

"Loved my day with Carole on water soluble pencils. It proved the perfect starting point for somebody who hasn’t really done any painting/drawing for a long time. Carole was very supportive and helpful. The class was mixed abilities and Carole made everyone feel at ease - quite a talent, for painting and people! Thanks."

Julia Bleakman reviewed: Bookbinding for Beginners and Improvers

"A very enjoyable five day bookbinding course. Mark Cockram is an excellent teacher - knowledgeable, patient and organised. We learned a good range of solid basic skills and also explored individual projects. A great combination of expert demonstrations and hands-on working, and the time flew by. The accommodation was simple but clean and quiet, at the beautiful Flatford Mill. The whole class intends to go back next year, which is a pretty good indication of how much we all enjoyed it!"

Field Studies Council, Flatford Mill responded:

"Thank you very much for your kind review. We're so glad you enjoyed the course and look forward to welcoming you back soon."

Jane reviewed: Willow Work: Small Willow Sculptures

"I had been on one of Jo's sculpture workshops and saw her slate mosaic work then and really liked the pieces. When she said she was developing a workshop, I was first in line! I was not disappointed, right from the start the whole group became absorbed in creating very individual pieces. The slate was gorgeous, almost works of art themselves, and there was lots of interesting glass and other materials to truly make a unique piece of art. Jo supplied hanging hooks so I put mine up as soon as I got home. A fabulous day with amazing results! "

Charlotte Boddy reviewed: Weave a Country Basket

"The course had a relaxed atmosphere and very welcoming! Met new people while learning a new skill. Juliet was brilliant and helpful. Took us through each stage very clearly and I was able to pick it up quickly. I am looking into the foraging basket course and will bring along my mum. Thank you for a great day!"

Sarah Hawker reviewed: Christmas Marbled Papers

"My daughter and I spent a very enjoyable day learning the basics of marbling on paper. Margaret had provided all the materials, and even included some Christmas decorations for us to decorate. A sandwich and salad was also available, along with cake & hot drinks - much appreciated on a miserable day."

Barbara Bull reviewed: Stained glass for beginners

"My second time attending the Stained Glass Course at FSC Flatford Mill. The location is absolutely delightful & the staff can't do enough for you & make you feel very welcome ☺The accommodation though basic is 5* basic, clean & excelent for what you need. It's a full on, enjoyable course so you don't get to, nor do you want to, spend time languishing in your room. Sharon, the teacher is friendly, good fun, helpful & very encouraging. I've met lots of nice people of different abilities and all with interesting backgrounds. Whether we've believed we're "arty" or not at the beginning, under Sharon's guidance, we've all gone home with an absolute gem of stained glass."

Fraser Hale reviewed: Bookbinding for Beginners and Improvers

"Excellent course in every respect. Accomodation and catering were first class, and the course itself was engaging and inspiring. George is an ideosyncratic tutor, and hugely knowledgable. He dealt effortlessly with the varying degrees of skill and experience presented by a class of widely different abilities. Despite the extended workshop sessions (this is a positive thing, George certainly wasn't clock watching) I never once felt that I wasn't occupied/learning/improving. Left the course with a great sense of satisfaction, and inspired to study the craft further."

Janice Ofield reviewed: Stained glass for beginners

"A great weekend learning a new skill in beautiful surroundings. This is my second time of attending this course and both times have been left with a great feeling of achievement . Facilities at the centre are excellent but mainly the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff stands out with an obvious sense of pride in their work whilst promoting the centre at its best. Look forward to returning !"
