I returned to see Lucy again for a two-day session where we continued to work together on a large necklace. Without Lucy's experience and expert knowledge, I would have been unable to progress and develop the ideas by myself. Her knowledge and advice is unbounded and I always leave feeling so inspired! She also ensures that you really make a lot of progress on your work and really absorb the techniques. She always goes the extra mile and has given me continued support throughout the years to explore my ideas to the absolute fullest. Another very successful few days of tuition!

Last time I came to Lucy I made a pair of silver earrings. This time I came to add embellishments to them. We spent the day experimenting with different wire and bead combinations. This was a task in itself as we tried to get an organic look whilst respecting the reflective quality in the silver. By the time we had cracked it, it was time to come home. Now where did that time go? As the saying goes time flies when you’re having fun. In this case when you’re fully engaged with a master crafts person

I've just returned to Durham after spending 2 fascinating and informative days with Lucy at her workshop. Having explored the internet for silversmith/jewellery courses I decided on Lucy because she offers one to one tuition - and has a wealth of experience. I am so glad I made that choice - Lucy is an excellent tutor and and I have had an amazing an exciting introduction to the craft. I felt so comfortable and inspired in her workshop that I didn't want to leave. It was a long way to go but was well worth the journey and I am already planning a return visit.

On Wednesday 18th September 2019, I attended a one day jewellery making course with Lucy at her studio. I thoroughly enjoyed my day with her and was put at ease from the start.
I was able to make a silver bangle from start to finish myself, with lots of advice and support from Lucy. She is able to strike the right balance of help and encouragement which gave me a great sense of achievement and increased my self-confidence immensely. The day was very informative and enjoyable and I would recommend other people to try it.

I was lucky enough to get great weather again while visiting Lucy to continue work on my bangle. It was great to see the baby birds - visibly older - still going to the feeders in Lucy's courtyard.
The focus of the day was using silver tube for the setting of a small CZ stone. Lucy is very patient: a distinct advantage with something so fiddly. This is where having the one-to-one tuition comes into its own.
Moving on then to some tricky soldering to attach the mount, before I know it it is time to leave having had a wonderful day and happy I've learned so much.
Thank you Lucy.

Me and my sister Eira had a great day yesterday with Lucy Copleston, we did wire wrap jewellery for crystals. What a great person, very helpful. She sat down and showed you step by step and nothing was too much for her. Amazing person at her craft and we would love to come back and do more. 5 Stars Thank you so much.

Today I made earrings in silver similar to the ones I had made in copper. It was great to experiment with a project using different metals.
With Lucy’s tuition we were able to work in tandem with her showing me what to do on one earring whilst I worked on the other. I’m feeling like a proper crafts person now all down to Lucy’s expert guidance. I feel one of her strengths is assisting me through the design process as what I may think would work isn’t always the case. Another great day. Going to Lucy is always a highlight in my calendar.

As a complete beginner I didn’t know what to expect but on arrival Lucy gave me a very warm welcome. The workshop is nestled in her beautiful bird filled garden and I was immediately offered a delicious fresh coffee. I had chosen to make earrings to match a necklace I had -ambitious for a beginner but Lucy was happy to take on the challenge. The whole day was spent expertly guiding me through the different processes in a relaxed and friendly manner with very much a ‘you can do it’ attitude. I loved every minute and ended the day with a pair of beautiful silver earrings. I can highly recommend Lucy Copleston’s workshop and will definitely be rebooking!

A lovely summer's day in early August. As I arrive the front garden has beautiful agapanthas in bloom. I walk through the side passage and across the courtyard to where Lucy has prepared the workshop with the fan going for perfect working conditions.
I am continuing with my bangle project: polishing, soldering and preparing mounts. Time passes and suddenly it is time for lunch! I finish with a relaxing cup of tea in the back garden listening to the gurgle of water flowing into Lucy's goldfish pond.
Back to work for more informative tuition and experience in soldering using charcoal nuggets inside the mount to help solder to flow and also prevent marking of the mounts from the binding wire.
Another wonderful day ends - as always, too quickly - and time to make my way home.

I’m so excited. I got to Lucy with a vague idea of what I wanted to do and once again her magic happened and I made the most amazing pair of earrings. She even set me homework which I don’t mind as my confidence is just soaring after taking regular skills lessons from Lucy.

I spent a day with Lucy as a complete beginner but with some interest of the subject and it was fabulous! Lucy was very patient, knowledgeable and clearly enjoyed her subject. By the end of the day I had created a stunning ring and had learned far more than I ever though I would have, I left completely inspired and still am, thank you for the amazing day Lucy :)

I spent a day with Lucy to introduce me to jewellery making for the first time. Lucy was patient and easy to understand, giving me plenty of opportunity to try techniques and ask questions. Feeling very inspired and already planning what I would like to learn next time I book a day with Lucy. Thank you!

This time: a three day visit continuing my bangle project. As it is inspired by the amazing irises in Lucy's garden, she brought one into the studio for me as a close-up reference.
I was suffering with hay fever; fortunately Lucy has an air purifier in the studio that she turned up and it really helped!
To round off three instructive and enjoyable days, Lucy showed me a wonderful new book on the history of jewellery: great inspiration for future projects!
I have booked my next session in August. Can't wait to return. Thanks Lucy.

I spent a wonderful day with Lucy in her beautiful studio. (She also has a beautiful garden!) Her knowledge and creativity are inspiring and she is an excellent teacher, knowing when you need her and also knowing when to step back. She is fabulous company too and a pleasure to spend a day with. She made me feel very welcome in her studio. Lucy provides lots of help and guidance before the class and documents the day so you have a lovely record of what you did. I am amazed at what I managed to produce in a day and would love to return again.

With next-to-no prior experience, did a one-day workshop yesterday with Lucy to turn a plain strip of silver into a textured anticlastic cuff bangle which has delighted my wife. Lucy is a hugely skilled, knowledgeable and patient teacher with a well-equipped studio. Altogether a fulfilling day with added incidental birdwatching for extra enjoyment!

After having stones ping all over my floor with a hunt with a broom to find them. I decided to do the sensible thing and use a session with Lucy to learn how to do it. For a start we worked in the bench with the skirt which ensured that they only pinged as far as my knees so were easily found. Although I have had several sessions I am not always confident to work at home. Lucy taught me in her usual methodical way and now I’m sure with practice and getting my equipment right I can do it at home.

After my daughter and husband's visit and seeing their enthusiasm and their amazing finished jewellery they had made with Lucy, I really wanted to go myself. My husband was more than happy to oblige and join me. We both had a fantastic day. Lucy is so kind and knowledgeable, patient and happy to listen to your ideas and help you make your designs.
She puts you at ease and is quick to commend, giving you the confidence in yourself to complete the task in hand. She shows you how, then either watches you to help or lets you get on if she feels you are able. I found her way of teaching brilliant.
I love the triple solid silver bangle I made and would of paid far more to buy it if I had seen it in a Jewellers, than I paid for the course and the silver!
A superb added bonus is I came away with the knowledge of how to make more and how to use the skills I have learned to make matching earrings and a ring that I was able to start and bring home to finish .
I am already planning my return to learn more skills from Lucy’s abundant knowledge. I can’t recommend Lucy and her jewellery courses enough .

On returning to Lucy after my epic pendant challenge, I decided with Lucy to do some stone setting. This is something where my experience is lacking. Before I knew it two pendants were planned cut and started to be set.
I set one stone in a bezel setting on the day and the others to be done as homework. The second pendant will have a flush set of stones. More techniques with the embellishments to the pendants to be decided on. Never a dull moment. All this before my next ambitious project. There is so much I want to learn and Lucy is the perfect instructor as she is full of ideas. Her experience will shy me away from anything too complicated. I felt so confident with my stone setting due to my past sessions with Lucy the time just whizzed by.

Another satisfying day making jewellery with Lucy’s expert and patient tuition. I didn’t know there was so much to know about stone setting! Trev and I are delighted with our pendants and looking forward to learning more skills in Lucy’s lovely workshop. The coffee also comes highly recommended!
Lucy ensures that her students are enjoying their day and getting the best from it on all levels.
