Nicky Anderson reviewed: Introduction to Frame Loom Weaving at The Bristol Artisan

"Ellie was very welcoming and friendly. Lovely venue. After demonstrating the basics and introducing us to our little personal baskets of tools and beautifully printed instruction leaflet over a cup of tea, we were let loose on a range of gorgeous fibres plus to weave with; chunky yarns, beautiful natural fibres which I would never have guessed were made from banana, rose plants etc, hand spun and hand dyed yarns, wire and even glittery fibres and pompoms. We were shown examples of previous makes and it was left to us to decide whether to weave a wall hanging, coaster or just weave and see what happened! I originally planned to make a coaster, but thought the opportunity to try out such lovely and unusual fibres available was too good to miss, so strayed a bit and just experimented with making shapes, very patiently guided by Ellie; and changing colours and fibres adding in a little fringe on the way. I was pleased to learn how to warp the loom and to take the piece off and finish it as I had only worked on a previously set up loom. Our creations were all very different and I think we were all pleased with what we had achieved. The three hours flew by. I very much enjoyed and would certainly recommend the workshop."

Elka responded:

"Hi Nicky, thank you so much for the review. Wonderful to meet you and i’m so glad you enjoyed the workshop. I loved you woven piece. Very best wishes, Ellie"

"As I suffer with severe rheumatoid arthritis, particularly in my hands and arms, I approached this course with some trepidation. But I needn't have worried. Ellie was wonderful and so helpful and understanding enabling me to fully participate. The course was inspiring, so many interesting ideas so that each of us could work on our own ideas and produce a piece of work to our own tastes."

Elka responded:

"Thank you so much Roz for the review. It was a pleasure meeting you and i’m so glad you enjoyed the workshop. Very best wishes, Ellie"

Chloe Harding reviewed: Introduction to Frame Loom Weaving at The Bristol Artisan

"I recently attended one of Ellie's workshops with my daughter and it was brilliant ~ we both absolutely loved it. Ellie is so knowledgeable, kind and patient. She provided us all with tea and coffee upon arrival, which created a friendly welcome; it was also lovely to be able to sit down with a cup of something and settle into the class while she gave us some background knowledge on weaving. The equiptment and materials provided were beautiful. There was a real variety of different yarns and I had no idea that you could get a yarn made from rose, which is unbelievably soft! You are also able to purchase a loom which comes with clear instructions and photos (fantastic) put together by Ellie making it easy to take home and carry on weaving. This calss is a must for anyone interested in weaving. We shall definitely be attending another one in the future."

Elka responded:

"It was great to have you both there and i'm so glad you enjoyed it. Your weaving was fabulous!"

"Ellie provided an excellent introduction to frame loom weaving for beginners. A super selection of natural materials was available for the class to use, and help and encouragement was given when needed. There was an option to buy equipment at the end for those who wanted to continue with their piece of work. Three hours went very quickly (as did the delicious lemon cake!) Thank you for an enjoyable morning Ellie, I would recommend this for beginners to weaving."

Jane Rankine reviewed: Introduction to Frame Loom Weaving at The Bristol Artisan

"Ellie is a lovely and enthusiastic tutor and I really enjoyed the workshop. My only suggestion would be perhaps not to offer drinks straight away so that she is on hand to welcome everyone and find out what made people want to come to the class and find out names. Once everyone got started there was a natural break to go and make teas etc. The choice of materials was excellent as was the equipment provided. I'm sure anyone wishing to learn a bit about weaving would benefit from this workshop."

Elka responded:

"Hi Jane thank you very much for the review. Apologies for being on tea duty when you arrived. I like to offer everyone refreshments on arrival as some have traveled several hours to get there. I have taken your comments on board and will make sure everyone has been introduced properly moving forwards. It was great to meet you and I'm glad you enjoyed working with all the materials."
