I came to York all the way from Chile to visit my daughter. One of the highlights of my trip was the jewellery making day-course I took with Richard. He went out of his way to meet my needs and provide me with an unforgettable jewellery making experience. Richard is extremely knowledgeable about his craft, but most importantly, kind, patient and an excellent teacher. His workshop is really well equipped; I was provided with everything I needed to make two beautiful silver rings that I got to take home.
Both Richard and his wife Catherine were really friendly and generous. I was offered tea and coffee throughout the day and was welcome to use their kitchen to heat and eat my lunch. I recommend Richard with no reservations, and look forward to taking another course with him in the near future.
Had a super day with Richard and made a beautiful bangle and two pairs of ear-rings. One to one tuition and all stages explained carefully. I would highly recommend this course.
Response from Boyne-Whitelegg Pottery:Thanks very much for the review. regards Richard
This course totally exceeded our expectations. Richard is fabulous at what he does. There are lots of choices available and you are encouraged to create your own designs. This is a fabulous way to spend a day and you will leave with some unique pieces. We have just had our second visit and are completely hooked!
Cannot recommend Richard and his course highly enough. From the offset very professional, discussing over the phone a plan for the day, very tailored to your aims and what you want to get out of the day(s). Richard is very knowledgeable about his craft and eagerly explained the processes and approaches to jewellery making and common errors to avoid. I went away much more confident in the process and with a couple of very nice creations!
I had a fantastic morning with Catherine teaching me the rudiments of clay building. Much to my surprise I was able to create both a vase and soap dish. Catherine is immensely knowledgeable and an encouraging teacher.
Can highly recommend a course with Catherine, we've had a wonderful morning learning how to use the potters wheel (Catherine, you make it look so easy) and to make our own little animals - can't wait to see how the hedgehog, chicken and french bulldog look after firing. An excellent tutor, an excellent course. Thank you so much, Sandi, Pat and Elaine
Myself and my boyfriend spent the day with Catherine at her beautiful studio last month. We each got to produce a range of thrown and coiled pieces, learning about the techniques and styles of decoration available to us. Catherine was a patient teacher and helped us to achieve so much more than we had hoped for from the day. Our pieces were then expertly packaged and shipped home to us in London. We would definitely recommend her course to novices wanting a fun days exploration of clay, or for pros who'd like to practice with a knowledgeable teacher in a welcoming environment. Thank you Catherine!
Thanks, Catherine, for a brilliant couple of hours. We had no idea what to expect and to be able to throw a couple of pots and make something with out hands too was great. You have the patience of a Saint and we can't thank you enough for making it such a wonderful mother and daughter experience.

I wanted to have a go at both throwing and hand building pottery but I live a hectic life and cannot always commit to a class on a set day and time every week. I love the flexibility that I enjoy with Catherine. She fits me when I can come along and her easy going approach suits me perfectly. I felt immediately at home in her studio. I love the fact that every piece doesn't have to be perfect. I learn as I go but it doesn't matter if it goes wrong. It is a lot of fun! I have so much to learn but feel I can learn in a cosy and safe environment, at my own pace and in my own time. I never want the sessions to end.
Catherine kindly took me for a course at very short notice.
She patiently and professionally taught me the principles of pot throwing.
I came away with my head buzzing, full of inspiration and confidence to continue with my potting.
I look forward to being able to go again.
I had a couple of great lessons. Catherine is a really good and patient teacher, I have never done any throwing before and with her help was able to make some mugs on the wheel and learn some of the principles of throwing and turning. Her workshop is very well set up and I'd reccommend this to anyone who wants to learn ceramics/pottery.
