"This is an excellent course. Andy is a great teacher and strikes the perfect balance between demonstration and allowing you to have a go. The workshop is very well equipped and the hospitality is very good. Andy makes you feel relaxed and he's an excellent conversationalist. "This course was received as a birthday gift and I found it to be an excellent day. Just walking in to Andy's workshop sent my mind spinning as to how I can develop mine. I had no idea what turning would be like, but with his excellent guidance and benefit of his experience I learnt the basics and produced a lovely cedar bowl. Turning is like alchemy for wood and I am now considering various tools and ways in which I can take the skills further."

"Just had three days with Andy (my second visit this year). Produced a beech platter, a tulipwood bowl, and a sycamore vase. Excellent tuition from a very talented craftsman. Lovely surroundings, nice lunch, genial company...what's not to like? Loads of tools and techniques to try out. I really recommend a visit here."

"I had inherited a lathe from my father who gave me a 2 hour lesson about 10 years ago. The lathe has been in bits in my garage ever since. I took a 2 day course with Andy in order to give me the impetus and the confidence to attempt assembly of the lathe and to get on turning. Andy has achieved this with his great experience but more importatntly with his very friendly and flexible approach to his client's needs. We sharpened correctly turning tools which I had taken with me and then proceeded to turn firstly a small rolling pin and then a beautiful bowl. The whole experience was uplifting from the beautiful rural location to the treasure chest of tools and machinery of Andy's workshop and the excellent lunches!!"

"I had a great day with a really experienced craftsman. I went along as a complete novice and Andy enabled me to use two special tools with which to learn the very basic techniques of gradually creating a bowl from a cylindrical block of monkeypuzzle wood. He was patient and gave me guidance at every point in the process forgiving my mistakes and stepping in unobtrusively to rescue me from potential disaster !! I went home with a lovely finished bowl."

"I booked onto a day course with my partner as we were both intrigued by woodturning, but complete beginners. Andy is really welcoming and the workshop was a great size and space to learn in. It was amazing how quickly we got to work and Andy did a great job at offering useful guidance and insight into the craft. A really enjoyable day with a lovely lunch. Will definitely be keeping in touch and look forward to future tuition."

"Andy clearly has a wealth of experience and knowledge and is a genuinely good teacher who can encourage and enthuse as well communicate technique. As a complete beginner I approached the day with some apprehension but I needn't have worried - Andy was patient and helpful but never patronising. The workshop was very well equipped and though initially daunted by all the machinery and kit around us, by the day's end I felt comfortable using the lathes, chisels and finishing materials. My son and I both came away feeling not only that we had learned a lot in short time but ,importantly, we had enjoyed the experience, had felt totally engaged and left feeling that woodturning was something we could take on."

"My daughter and I joined Andy for a day in his workshop and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. He was very patient with us and taught us lots of Woodturning techniques. We both came away with a cedar bowl (most of which) was made by us on the lathes. Andy’s wife Martine kept us supplied with teas and coffees throughout and made us a lovely lunch. All in all a fun, relaxing but educational day. I would recommend this course for anyone thinking of getting into Woodturning or someone just wanting to ‘have a go’ thanks Andy & Martine."

"A very enjoyable half day, one to one, course that introduced me to wood turning. Andy explained the basics and then let me get on with producing my first bowl. With his guidance and assistance I ended up with a nice looking bowl, a sense of achievement and a desire to go back for another session. Not sure where the time went but I have already asked my family for another gift voucher such that I can have another go. Thanks Andy."

"I've recently attended a very informative wood turning course with Andy at his place in the New Forest. During the session it became apparent that my wood turning tools were not suited for the production of bowls but would be more suitable for turning of spindles, I'm now looking to purchase the more appropriate gouges from a source Andy advised me of. Many many thanks Andy for all your advice and I will persevere with the techniques you've shown to me. I would also like to thank you & your wife for the refreshments that were supplied during the day, wishing all the best for the future."

"I hadn't picked up a woodturning chisel in over 10 Years, however Andy made me feel right at home with one in no time at all. The two day course was excelent in every way from the well equipped workshop to the excelent lunch we had each day. Andy is very knowlegable and is very good at imparting that knowledge to you without you feeling like a numpty. I most definitely feel inspired to blow the cobwebs off my lathe and to put my new skills to the test."

I would really recommend this as a day for anyone wanting to get to grips with turning. I made a bowl which was really nice and great to come away with a memento of the day. "What a thoroughly enjoyable day. Andy is a very knowledgeable teacher and puts things across in a very easy way to understand and put into practice. First time wood turning in over 20 years and made a quite a few mistakes, but Andy was right there to advise how to fix it. If it was not something I was able to fix he was able to work his magic and have it fixed in no time. With all the hints and tips I got through out the day I know I am well on my way to becoming a wood turner. Andy and his wife were so welcoming and lovely to spend time with. Nothing was to much trouble through out the whole day. If you have the option of what to have for lunch I would highly recommend the lasagne (top notch lunch) :) I will definitely be getting some more lessons and can highly recommend going to Andy for lessons."

"I’m recently bought my first lathe as a beginner but realised I needed more guidance despite having attended another course. Andy tailored the two days to my needs. He taught me how to sharpen my tools properly and how to mount work safely. He also encouraged me to try different cutting techniques and not to be afraid of the skew chisel! He is a real expert and patiently helps develop confidence. I’d happily recommend Andy, and I’m likely to go for a refresher in the future. Martine also provides great food!"
