With around 30 years experience of training people and working in conservation with trees and green wood work, you will be sure to learn more than just the basics of spoon carving and whittling. Having learnt the professional and safe carving techniques from some of the best out there, I will pass on these skills so that you can also carve safely and with confidence at home, or improve on your technique.
"The spoon carving course was excellent. I'd primarily wanted to go along with my daughter so she could learn how to use the tools safely. There was so much knowledge passed on to us about how to work safely and efficiently, different cutting techniques, avoiding muscular fatigue too - a world of creativity previously unknown to me, a wonderful craft to discover and learn; with much appreciated home-cooked food provided too!"
"Really good teacher. Thank you for all the tips on the best ways to cut the wood and how to sharpen tools. Thanks also for the yummy snacks and lunch. Not sure when I'll make another spoon but enjoyed the day. "
"Throughly enjoyed making a spoon from a birch log and learning the axe and knife skills involved. Alan is an excellent teacher, and the butternut squash soup for lunch is also highly recommended! "
"A great day that absolutely flew by! Alan is a patient and calm teacher, happy to answer any questions throughout the day. I was able to come away with a lovely spoon and a new obsession for spoon carving!
There were plenty of tea breaks and homemade dishes cooked to perfection by Sim who very kindly gifted some freshly homegrown vegetables at the end of the day.
I would recommend this workshop to anyone!"
