About the Course
Wild Basketmaking is a 2 day course that takes place in Moreton Wood - a beautiful Herefordshire woodland managed for wildlife and conservation.
The course involves learning about the natural materials growing wild that can be used for basket weaving.
You will learn how to harvest and prepare a variety of materials and then makeyour own beautiful and unique basket with them.
There will also be opportunities to look around the woods and gain an understanding of traditional woodland management.
The day will start with hot drinks and cake around the campfire before we walk around the woods gathering materials to use for basketmaking.
We will then prepare the materials and begin making the basket base and stop for lunch in the campfire circle at about 1pm.
In the afternoon and the following day you will continue making your basket using different techniques and weaving strokes to suit the variety of materials gathered. You will be helped to make a pattern of your choice using the different colours and textures of the wild materials. Fast workers or more experienced basketmakers will be able to add a handle, if they would like, to their basket.
Jo is a basketmaker, artist and woodland worker. She and her husband own and live in Moreton Wood.
