Thatching for beginners with South West Thatching

Description

A beginners introduction to the art of thatching. You will be taught and guided by Toby Parfiitt-Marr owner of South west Thatching, Toby is a member of the Master thatchers association and has been thatching for 24 years so has a wealth of experience in the trade. You will begin your journey into the world of thatching by learning about the history, various tools and materials used in the trade with an end aim of thatching your own section of roof. Toby will guide you through the whole process of preparing your material to applying them to the roof, you will be hands on throughout the whole process. All roof sections will be at ground level to make the process easier for everyone. This is a day course to allow people who have an interest in thatching or just like to learn new skills to have a go at this old trade, you will leave with a better understanding on how a thatched roof works. I may offer more advanced courses in the future that would include ridging and spar making if the interest is there.

What's included in the price?

Complimentary Tea, Coffee and homemade Cakes. Free entry to the gardens for the day with an hour at lunch to enjoy the surroundings, please bring your own pack lunch to make the most of this time. There is plenty of parking on site situated just a short walk away from the thatching area. We have compost toilets on site. There is minimal sheltered areas so please do bring appropriate clothing in case the weather changes. We will provide gloves and all the tools and materials needed.
